People think Trump is holding the Republican Midterm Collection to bolster odds in the midterms, but have you considered this is one of the last chances he'll have to steal dues from his own party?
I got an invite that went out to Michigan party members back over the summer. And just for an individual who wanted to come, an honorary delegate is what they called it, that was going to cost $7,500 just for that individual ticket. That did include floor seating and hotel. That did not include air travel here.
It is $25,000 for members of Congress to attend. And The Wall Street Journal had some really staggering information about some of the fund-raising that's going on here that President Trump is doing. They say that an RNC fund-raiser this afternoon with the president is costing $250,000 per person. If donors want to take a picture with the president, that costs $88,600.

When I was a kid in public school decades ago all this was free, or available for a nominal fee. I'm really saddened that the taxpayers have given up in investing in our children because it was an awesome thing to have, something I appreciated even then.
"So you think the American taxpayer should fund youth soccer? You should definitely run for office on that. What about piano lessons, SAT prep, dance, math tutoring, horse riding, fencing etc? Should taxpayer fund those? Also, our goverment financially supports many sports."

Something jumped out looking at @simonwdc.bsky.social's daily email. Not that this is necessarily reflective about all campaign funding everywhere, but it seems plenty of people have decided there's better places for their money than Platner's campaign.

This part. Odds are Ford didn’t hire them back at their old titles and at their old pay rates. They’re now AI babysitters. Although Ford couldn’t eliminate them completely, it brought their high pay workers down a peg.
The staff will lead quality reviews after the automation issues cost the company billions of dollars, Bloomberg reported, while some workers will also help improve and train the AI systems.

|I think what people don't understand is you might be able to be a closed tent in Oklahoma, but you can't be a closed tent in Maryland," Kittleman said. "You have to be able to invite people in who differ with you, and you know, unfortunately, now the Maryland Republicans are, like, not realizing the fact that we're not going to win any races."

Midatlantica @midatlantica.com · 20/04/2026
Wise words.
So the lesson of the late Paul Waldman in his duality is this: Sure, go ahead and work out. Exercise is healthy for both body and mind. But that will not make you a man. Much more importantly: Create something. It could be art, but it doesn’t have to be. Put something worthwhile into the world that wouldn’t have been there without you. Forget about being macho and be a mensch. One day your muscles will wither and die, but if you do it right, the things you made and the effect you had on other people will not.

I fear this episode has not sated the bloodlust of my countrymen. I fear for the rest of my life Republicans who promise to finish the job of what Trump started in Minneapolis will poll well. The Overton window has shifted and ultimately they still want a better Trump, not to change their ways
This raises what is already the most important question of the Trump years thus far: Will his legacy be durable and lasting? Does it represent a new template for American government going forward? Or is it more like an unfortunate detour into a dark alley?
