The city looked remarkably ordinary to all parties, but especially the humans. If the burnt-out central district were Manhattan, this was easily pre-gentrified Brooklyn or Queens. Three-level stone houses stood scorched and filthy.

Here's a pretty much completely random excerpt from my dystopian sci-fi Trinity's Redemption. It serves as the sequel to Hard As Roxx, focuses on main character Trint's life story. We made it to the Alassippi border in no time. I once saw an old video of Harlem before the renovations started. Believe it or not, it used to be one of the more run-down areas of the city.
