i love teaching AND the students see so much misogyny online these days that i’m convinced it translates into behaviors in the classroom :(

2 proud moments that i think show Ss’ criticality & how they’re living justly: 1) district is piloting tech software & offered Ss amazon gift cards for an interview. Some students declined bc of their views on Bezos

The United States has officially withdrawn from the World Health Organization. This is a shameful move that puts both Americans and people all over the world at greater risk from disease outbreaks, which require international collaboration to contain.
United States Completes WHO Withdrawal
WASHINGTON —  January 22, 2026 — The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of State today announced the United States’ completion of its withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO) due to the organization's mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic that arose out of Wuhan, China, its failure to adopt urgently needed reforms, and its inability to demonstrate independence from the inappropriate political influence of WHO member states.

Schools have no clue how many students are living under the threat of deportation for themselves and/or their immediate families. We have no way to collect this data or to address the issues that arise when students live in fear of their worlds being torn apart. And it’s a massive problem.

was recently asked, "what are you grateful for?" and it made me really uncomfortable to think of a response-- there is so much to be grateful for, but those are often results of privilege AND there are people thriving without the things I'm grateful for.

I have yet to see a use case for AI in the classroom that wouldn't also be addressed by smaller class sizes & more paid prep time for teachers.

A7: Journal writing at start of class – a prompt related to current events, the day's lesson, or reflection about team work and participation in class. Then I ask students to share with their team mates and they often find points of similarity and connect on that. #T2Tchat #edusky #teacherhacks

Michelle (she/her) @michellelogarithms.bsky.social · 17/10/2025
A6: Highlight SPECIFIC ways that students were “smart” that day, in front of their peers– maybe they asked a really great question or drew a picture to solve a problem. Either way, verbal praise really motivates my students to keep up the momentum in the future! #T2Tchat #edusky #teacherhacks

Michelle (she/her) @michellelogarithms.bsky.social · 17/10/2025
A5: I take a moment to check in with the class and share my honest thoughts – “hey – this isn’t going as I planned. How is everyone feeling?” this usually helps me gauge whether students are confused about the directions or about the content. #T2Tchat #edusky #teacherhack

Michelle (she/her) @michellelogarithms.bsky.social · 17/10/2025

A1: Reduced phone use - but standing at the door to greet students each day while reminding them to put phones in a phone box. Overall, students have a lot more awareness of their own phone use and understand it’s about collective accountability! #T2Tchat #EduSky
