For some reason this thoughtful paragraph by Ian Bogost makes me think about A.I.

Optimization is terrific if you want to get somewhere else in the future. But it's terrible for being where you actually are right now. When goals overtake experience, you lose the freedom to encounter your lfe as it happens. And when you lose tha ability, you are no longer living in full. We used to optimize work so we could do everything else. Now we optimize life as though living were another job. Too many of us seem to be maxxing our way out of the experiences and perspectives that give us maximum meaning.

Yesterday a man was trying to make small talk with me. Every time he asked a question, he'd listen to the first two or three words of my answer and then talk over me to finish my sentence. Except he never correctly guessed what I was going to say, so then I would say "well, no, I was going to say.."

Today I asked my first period to help me put chairs down and someone asked, "Do we get PBIS points for this?" Which is exactly why I hate PBIS points. As grades are to learning, PBIS points are to behavior. Short term facade of benefits with more concerning long-term consequences.
