My coworkers and I were talking today about how frazzled and overwhelmed we all are, and someone pointed out, “it’s the heat,” and we all sat silent for a moment realizing it was true. We are burning out and burning up

Doing research for my novel in progress, I found this map from the 19th century temperance movement. I definitely live in Nervous Town, but when I need a little getaway, I vacation in Gripe Point.
A fictional map from 1838 with landmarks meant to be allegorical, as part of the 19th century temperance movement.

For #FolkHorrorWeek, I submit the original Bambi by Felix Salten, translated by Whitaker Chambers. It is folk horror for wildlife! I have this edition from 1931 and it was intense reading it as a kid (which of course I did)
The cover of the novel Bambi from 1931.…the snow suddenly sprang up. “I don’t know what it is,” he mumbled and gazed around.
Everyone grew watchful. “What is it?” They asked.
“I don’t know,” Ronnie repeated. “But I’m restless. I suddenly felt restless as if something were wrong.”
Karus was snuffing the air. “I don’t smell anything strange,” he declared.
They all stood still, listening and snuffing the air. “It’s nothing, there’s absolutely nothing to smell,” they agreed one after another.
“Nevertheless,” Ronno insisted, “you can say what you like, something is wrong.”
Marena said, “The crows are calling.”
“There they go calling again,” Faline added quickly, but the others had already heard them.
“They are flying,” said Karus and the others.
Everybody looked up. High above the tree-tops a…
