Michael Tremmel @michaeltremmel.bsky.social · 09/09/2026I don’t believe there is such a thing as “AI literacy”. To use it effectively you need to already have the skills/knowledge which you are outsourcing to AI, so you can critically analyze and understand the results. It is the university’s job to provide this knowledge/skills 010
Michael Tremmel @michaeltremmel.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Using AI in the classroom does not teach these things. Quite the opposite in fact as we see students that utilize AI perform systematically worse on exams as those that do not. I don’t think exams are themselves an accurate metric, but this systematic difference is telling. 100
Michael Tremmel @michaeltremmel.bsky.social · 09/09/2026So there’s this idea that universities must adopt AI in the curriculum in order to prepare students for the workforce. Let’s ignore for a min the fact that UNIVERSITIES ARE NOT FOR JOB TRAINING. How do you use AI well? The key is being able to think, reason, and critically analyze the results. 120
