🪶 Good Morning, Happy Monday Everyone! Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #BlueSkies; any bird against a blue sky Alt. is #BadWeather; any bird in inclement conditions - A Peregrine Falcon in flight - A Goldfinch in the rain #ECK #birdphotography #birdsofbluesky #naturephotography #BlueskyMonday
A Peregrine Falcon flying in a clear blue sky. The bird is centre of the shot, flying towards the camera and to the right. It is visible from underneath and its wings are slightly folded in a downward beat.
It has a dark head with a hooked beak, whitish cheeks and throat and a prominent malar stripe (or moustache) running down the side of its face. Its underbelly is creamy white and covered in black steaks/dots. The outer fatehrsnon the wings are black and the yellow legs are tucked in under its tail.
The sun is shining in from the right and highlighting the edges of the wings but most of the visible part of the bird is in slight shade. A Goldfinch perched on a small branch in the rain. The bird is slightly right of centre of the frame, it is in side profile; looking left so its left side is visible. Its head is turned towards the camera. There is a decaying branch sticking up from the bottom centre of the shot and a small branch branches off that and to the right, travelling upward in a diagonal direction. Another small branch juts up from the bottom of the right hand corner.
The bird has a bright red mask, with a white ring around it; which itself has a black border. Its beak is pale, short and strong. The back is a warm buff-brown, the wings are black with white tips and a stunning gold-yellow wing bar. The tail is black with white tips and the underbelly is a pale white.
The bird is damp from rainfall and large drops can be seen frozen in the shot. The background is a uniform, out of focus green of woodland.

#BirdOfTheDay : the theme is #WingsOpenNotFlying. I wonder why these seagulls keep their wings open as they make their way over the wet sand and mud at low tide.
Two seagulls, seen from behind, walk on wet sand and mud on the beach of La Baule, France. They have their wings open, one of them both, the other one only one wing.

#BirdOfTheDay #Black&Red Pesquet's Parrot in a spacious walk through aviary. Archive photo #Parrot #bird #photography #EastCoastKin #ECK 🪶 #wildlife Please see ALT for more information on this interesting species.
The Pesquet's parrot (Psittrichas fulgidus) is also known as the bare faced parrot or the Vulturine parrot and is one of three parrot species lacking feathers on its face. Their diet is almost completely composed of fruit such as figs, climbing pandanus and mangoes (Juniper and Parr 1998). It is believed that the featherless face is an adaptation to eating messy soft fruits to prevent the clumping of feathers. It is endemic to Papua New Guinea and its habitat consists of montane primary and secondary forest from 600-1200m above sea level, but occasionally as high as 2000m and as low as 50m. This species is classed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List with the decreasing population trend.

Tap into your creative side for today's #BirdOfTheDay theme: #BirdsInAbstract From motion blur, obscure angles, or contrasting textures, anything goes! Show us your interpretation! 😊 Here's my contribution-can you guess who she is? 📷 🪶 It's open house, so no Alt theme today! Happy Saturday🕊️
An abstract close-up photograph emphasising starkly contrasting textures and geometric form rather than the literal identity of the subject. A sharp, wedge-like shape cuts horizontally across the lower half of the frame against a softly blurred, warm tan background. It is slate-grey in colour with subtle, marble-like blue highlights, mimicking the appearance of cast metal or polished stone. The upper portion of the image is dominated by a dense, fibrous texture of warm brown, velvety dense short bristles. The composition relies entirely on minimalism and form. The overall effect strips away the context of the natural world, transforming an intimate biological detail into a study of line, shape, and surface texture. This abstract framing also can trick the brain into finding a hidden face within texture and line. The entire image shifts from a literal biological close-up into a peaceful, minimalist portrait of what could be a sleeping creature!

Good Morning & Happy Friday Everyone! Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #Mouthful; any bird with anything in its beak Alt. is #Black; any bird with black plumage - A Rook delicately holding an acorn #birds #ECK #birdphotography #naturephotography #ForestFriday #Flyday
A Rook perched on a bare branch holding an acorn in its beak. The bird is left of centre of the frame, facing right with its head turned back to the left. The acorn is being held by the stem so the acorn and cup are hanging from the end of the beak.
The bird is a large, stocky corvid; it has a long, slender, pointed beak and its plumage is all black. The shoulder and underparts have a purple-violet sheen from the bright sunshine.
The Rook is on a small, thin branch with clumps of thick lichen growing along it. It is extended towards the camera towards the right side of the shot. Five larger branches are in the background; all vertical, bare and covered in lichen, against a clear blue sky

Morning & Happy Monday Everyone! Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #Herons&Egrets; any Heron or Egret shot Alt. is #Borbs; any bird that looks round, chubby, spherical etc. - Grey Heron on a riverbank - close up of a large , round Dunnock #birds #ECK #birdphotography #naturephotography
A Grey Heron sitting on a riverbank. The bird is left of centre of frame, looking right so that its right side is visible.
It hand along, sharp, orange beak, darker on top near the head. I had a white head with a large, dark stripe across the eye, ending is a crest at the back of the head. Its neck is tucked into its body and is a greyish white. Its back and wings are a light grey, with a darker grey at the edges of the wings. Its legs and tail are obscured by a mound of exposed riverbed in the foreground. The background is of the river, which has a brown tinge but is clear enough to see a sandy bottom near the bird, darker elsewhere. A Dunnock taken in close up. The bird is facing the camera directly and takes up almost the entire height of the shot, the small wooden post it is perched on can just be seen at the bottom of the picture.
It has a grey head and neck with brown cheek patches. Its sides are brown with black streaks and its chest is grey, turning to white underneath. It is facing the camera directly, so that both eyes can been seen and it has its feathers puffed out to give it a very round appearance.
The background is an out of focus white, with a dark stripe in the upper left hand corner

#LittleOnes on Saturday. #SmallBirdSaturday #Birds #ECK #Forest #MountainChickadee #ColorADay #GreenSat
A small Mountain Chickadee perches upright on a thin conifer branch near the center of the image. The bird has a soft gray back and wings, a pale gray-white belly, a black cap and throat, and a bright white stripe above the eye that stands out against the darker head. Its tail points downward, and its small pointed bill angles slightly up and to the left, as if it is alert and listening. The bird is surrounded by dense evergreen needles on the right side of the frame and twisting dark branches throughout. Many of the branches are draped in vivid yellow-green, stringy, pom-pom-like growth that gives the scene a shaggy, mossy look. The background is blurred in shades of green, yellow, and soft white light, making the chickadee appear crisp and tucked into a lush forest setting.
