Guys, if you aren't already supporting the Internet Archive, please consider doing so. They are way more than just the Wayback Machine. They have a massive library of texts, audio, films, video games, and more media available. I'm downloading the 1933 OED right now as pdfs. It's insane.

Insect declines threaten wildlife far beyond insect world. Apart from being food, insects provide other species with homes, protection, chemical defence and sanitation - to name a few things. Great review article by @r-cooke.bsky.social with BEAUTIFUL visuals. 🧪🪳 www.nature.com/articles/s44...
Visuals demonstrating the following:

Many freshwater fish eat insects
Parrots nest in termite mounds
Chimpanzees use insects on wounds
Poisonous frogs get toxins from ants and beetles.

73% of studied vertebrate species eat invertebrates

Can't stop thinking about this creepypasta in the making of a Tire Swing I found set up in a tunnel under a local intersection.
A concrete storm drain, with graffiti sourrounding it, and a tire swing in the darkness.A tiger swing in a grafitti tunnel, dark water to its left and darkness beyond. The other side of the tunnel, the swing in the light.

Perhaps the state legislature is more to blame than FHSU, unclear. Either way, it's especially insidious to rob a rural community of their museum. At least in Philly you can conceivable daytrip to DC or NYC.

The press coverage of the Academy of Natural Sciences has gone from "Oh how sad" to sounding like a hostage negotiation. Which maybe sounds bad, but elected leaders, the press, the people online, all saying "You don't have to do this, man" is better than mourning. share.inquirer.com/YTQg0s

The Academy's 150-year-old building faces roughly $150 million in deferred maintenance costs. While that may seem daunting, it is not insurmountable.

Or alternatively, we just don't adapt those particular animals because they don't fucking matter to the story. Everything except the apemen and arguably the theropod is just interchangeable sightseeing fauna. The famous "Brontosaurus" isn't even in the original 1912 novel.

Either make the "Iguanodon" and "Stegosaurus" descendants of the only Brazilian ornithischian we know (Tietasaura), or pick elasmarians and thyreophorans from Argentina. Argentina also opens up plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs, and I guess the "Megaloceros" could be some convergently evolved litoptern.
