“Dinosaurs to Dragons” by @shreevebooks.bsky.social is an interesting look into the possible real-world inspirations behind various mythical creatures. It’s certainly thought provoking, though I would take some of the suggestions with a grain of salt. dinodadreviews.com/2026/10/05/d...

It's #fossilfriday! Here's a guy from HOW TO SURVIVE PREHISTORY: Arthropleura, a (probably!) herbivorous millipede relative that roams the coal forests of Carboniferous Scotland. Survival Verdict: YES. It's got a nasty nip, but we feel if you get bit, you have it coming.

When I saw the Titanosaur exhibition at NHM London with friends, @dinomaster.bsky.social suggested I drew a Pudgy Patagotitan. I had a hard time pudgifying what is already _beyond_ pudgy, and could have pushed the exaggeration much further. I merely ended up with a short-legged titanosaur.
Ink drawing of a Patagotitan with, despite earnest attempts, only slightly exaggerated proportions, seen in side view, facing and walking towards the right. It has a gently silly expression at least.

Cetacea
Digital Drawing. An early whale (Pakicetus) stands at the water's edge, bending down for a drink. Behind it is a wall of tall grasses/reeds. The entire scene is shown within the shape of a blue whale. Despite the vast gulf in form and time between the two animals, they are of the same group: Cetacea.

My contribution to the fertility decline discourse is to note that there has never, in the millions of years that hominids have existed on this planet, been a sustained global population boom like we've seen in the past 300ish years. Why in god's name would you think that growth is sustainable?

I always see nonpartisan, righteous anger at public art. Everyone loves to hate a concrete blob bought with taxpayer money, what's it even meant to be etc. My hot take: art funding is good and there's no benign policy for keeping out 'bad' art. You really just gotta fund it until a good one happens

My social media silence is not because I'm dead, kidnapped, or abducted by aliens; I'm working around the clock to make Book 7 all that it can be before submission later this month. Here's a new #paleoart take on Microraptor and Yuanchuavis to show what I'm up to. OK, break over: back to work...
Streaking through the sky like a bell-bottomed black-suited disco-ninja, the "four-winged" dinosaur Microraptor attempts to grab an early bird, the pintailed Yuanchuavis, from the Cretaceous sky with taloned feet. Fossils show that Microraptor had a diverse diet that included birds, alongside lizards and fish.
