everyone knows the most important thing about a military officer is if he has a beard which is why Grant so famously was a worse general than McClellan

the time to have stringent red lines you will not cross is the primary! Have them there! Be strict about them! If a congresscritter displeases you, make it clear that you will primary their rotten ass! In the general, where it is "guy who kind of sucks on Issue X" vs "fascist" red lines are vanity

As someone who lived in NYC on 9/11 I just have to say this idea of a "post-9/11 unity" is insane to me. It did not feel like a country that had *always* despised its largest city was "uniting" with us in our trauma. It felt like a nation of vultures descending on a carcass.

This quote, from a 2005 New Yorker piece, sums up my "post-9/11 unity" feelings" "In fiscal year 2004, Wyoming received $37.74 per capita [in Homeland Security grants], and North Dakota $30.82, while New York got $5.41. Among the fifty states, New York’s per-capita allotment was forty-eighth."

as a reminder, the boat murders are a) very clear cut crimes and b) crimes where the command responsibility liability is limited to a couple dozen people, total, from pete to ac commanders it's the one specific area dems (if they have to pick only one) should be focused on making examples of in DoD

If the President of Harvard had posted what Elon did, an armed DOJ anti-Semitism strike force would already be on the way to seize the campus If just a random Harvard undergrad had posted it, DOJ would cut off its grants and launch an investigation

I wandered off when a No Kings speaker started her speech with "Free Palestine" and basically never got around to being against Trump at all (it was also an anti-housing local NIMBY rally). I'm Jewish and willing to ally w/ pp who want me dead, I just don't want to bring my energy to their thing

I am sorta sympathetic to the arg that a $1mn NYC apartment isn't actually always an indicator of great wealth considering real estate prices, and not at all sympathetic to the arg that a $1mn NYC apartment *that is not your primary residence* is not. that is wealth. you are a wealthy person.

It's absolutely insane we've somehow let the Covid recriminations debate become like "why didn't we reopen in person schools before there was a vaccine" and not "why did none of the trump guys go to jail for stealing PPE from New York hospitals in March 2020"

The overwhelming right wing sentiment is that COVID was an engineered bioweapon that was also harmless. Trump overreacted to it by shutting down the country, then engineered a drive to create a vaccine that was the real bioweapon that killed millions, and it's Joe Biden's fault.

Covid is simultaneously a nefarious Chinese bioweapon designed to kill millions and "just the flu." It killed millions because the deep state suppressed knowledge of the true horse paste cure and also killed nobody while millions died from the unnecessary evil vaccine.

Whether it’s a liberal social media user calling Trump “Dolt 45” or the President of the United States turning the White House grounds into a trashy UFC spectacle that ended with a fighter yelling “Michelle Obama is a man,” there’s been plenty of impropriety on both sides.
