Staying on the basalt column theme from my April 2023 trip to #Iceland, here's a couple of photos from the incredible Stuðlagil. And here's a link to the amazing story of its discovery :) www.hiticeland.com/post/the-dis...

A green river flows through a canyon with basalt columns on either side. On the near side the visible columns are low and orange, with a little stream running over them. One the far side the columns are tall and straight and grey. The exposure time is slowed down so that the ugly froth flowing down the river is smoothed out to create nice white streaks!

Looking down into a basalt column-lined river canyon. There is green water below, basalt columns on the far side (some stumpy, some tall) and on the near side are the hexagonal tops of two tall ones, which are slightly detached from the others (and may well fall one day soon).
