The rhetoric of tech in a nutshell: I value convenience, efficiency, ease first and also have no capacity to recognize humanity, my own or others, but feel qualified to run the world. Someone send an army of divorce lawyers; after all this guy already wants to disconnect.

the Heroic Protector Fantasy is rarely of real use to women, it's just wish fulfillment about male posturing and it frequently exacerbates violence it's also much easier to imagine yourself kicking the ass of an obviously villainous stranger than to to actually intervene where you have influence

Socially and in the legal system, our understanding of responses to sexual violence is purposefully uninformed and therefore limited to only “perfect” victims (who don’t really exist), so that we don’t have to actually combat sexual violence or believe victims or hold perpetrators accountable.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

“I am a mosaic of everyone I’ve ever loved…” 🥰
smokeinsilence:
have you ever noticed you pick up little habits and phrases from the people you love? it's no wonder our hearts are so easily broken when people leave. we become a reflection of the people that we care about and those personality traits stick with us even if the people don't
viridianmasquerade:
I make my ramen the way a friend taught me in eleventh grade.
Every fall, I listen to a playlist made for me by a boy I drove across a border to hook up with. I eat sushi because a girl who won't talk to me anymore made me try it, and Indian food because my best friend's parents ordered for me before I knew what I liked. There are movies I love because someone I loved loved them first. I am a mosaic of everyone l've ever loved, even for a heartbeat.

Btw it’s interesting the way ‘don’t bodyshame’ principles fall by the wayside when we’re talking about men. We talk about men’s insecurities like they’re moral failings, but talk about women’s (correctly) as the harmful byproduct of a fucked up society. Why?

The things that make you a better and more desirable partner are verbs – the things you actively do. This includes "how you make people feel", "how you treat others", "how you build and collaborate with someone in your life", and "how you live your life outside of work". Attraction isn't *passive*.
