I got a happy happen today. Woman in Tesco trying to find her favourite pate, out of stock, I pointed to my favourite, and said that I usually put pate on one slice of toast, philly on. .. and she said "YES, its the best".

I was pleased to hear BBC talking about MASKED men around that US base. What were they wearing ? Are they talking about balaclavas? Has BBC finally decided that wearing of balaclavas is a sign of criminal intent? Could we have a policy announcement? Balaclavas bad except when racist?

And recall: “one piece of evidence of failure [of Brexit] would be if we are still debating this in five- or six-years’ time in the same way. I think [if] it is to succeed it needs to settle in the British polity.” David Frost (2022). Pretty clear we now have that evidence of failure.

London's bridges are falling down. And people still think Thatcher was not an economic vandal. She sold our water, at a discount, to her mates. Our housing, our electric, our gas, our trains, the national grid, our airports The bridges, which the profiteers could not r@pe, had to be given away.

It’s worse than that because 50 years of not raising the standard rate of income tax has resulted in a tax system that is so illogical and riven with unintended consequences that any attempt to rationalise it in a way that incentivises the things we want to incentivise harms a major group of voters.

Kuenssberg again pressing Burnham on "putting taxes up". I pay at least 8 different taxes. Some based on my income, some on what I spend my money on, some on my indulgences. What is wrong with putting taxes up? Why does no one speak up for taxes? Tax is what pays for your nanna's bottom to be wiped.

Big tech companies are successfully - at least amongst politicians - embedding the idea that people are anti-tech if they want proper regulation of technology, and enforcement of pre-existing laws. Speed limits are not “anti-car”. Building standards are not “anti-house”.

When Starmer became PM he decided he must represent bigots as well as his own people. When Burnham became PM he decided to represent bigots as well as his own people. When the bigots win, they will never, ever put me above their bigotry. That MY legitimate concern.

Canada has a total ban on company/corporate donations. Only individuals who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents can make contributions and it's capped at $1,750 a year. They still have functioning parties and the sky hasn't fallen in. Quite the opposite... www.elections.ca/content.aspx...

one might pass a retrospective law banning super-large donations to political parties, backdated. Or one might simply define a political party differently, for example they cannot be Limited.

From @davidallengreen.bsky.social in @prospectmagazine.co.uk
But the very fact these private armies have developed while ministers and the police have been criminalising peaceful protesters under terrorism laws indicates warped political and operational priorities. Anti-terrorism is topsy-turvy because ministers and the police prefer easy targets under sweeping laws which seem even to confuse judges.
Terrorism law is the special body of law which gives the state extra powers beyond the general law of the land. It should be used sparingly and with deliberation.
Indeed, such laws used only to be enacted on a temporary basis, even against the IRA. But now terrorism law is used casually and, as we can now see, inefficiently.
And so we have the sights of mass arrests for holding up signs, and also of no arrests for those in political uniforms causing havoc.

Two police officers were murdered last month, by a group of 5 young men, 4 of whom were criminals. The BBC should refer to them as criminals. If their parents want to grieve for them, fine. But they were criminals and we should not forget that they killed innocent people while carrying out crimes

In the BBC, the Electoral Commission and Ofcom, the UK's far-right has three very willing little helpers. But it does not have to be that way. All it needs is a government to remind them of their responsibilities. Sadly, we don't have one of those.
