I'm delighted by the Yankees' 16-hitter wild card roster. If you have enough position players with even one big league quality skill you have to be nuts to take more than 10 or 11 pitchers to a best-of-three series

Everybody Except the Yankees Is Doing Wild Card Roster Construction Wrong
Only Cashman and Boone are bold enough to design a roster fit for a best-of-three series, rather than a best-of-162.

The Padres may defy all ontological conventions, but that didn’t stop them from earning a dominant win in Game 1 of their Wild Card Series against the Cubs.

My NLWC recap is live! Austin Riley was cheeks this year but he can still punish mistakes. The starters threw a million breaking balls, some of which didn't hit the hitter. Derek Hill lost his glove. All that and more as the Braves keep the Phillies from stealing Game 1.

When the White Sox pitch to the Astros, they’ll be thinking about Yordan Alvarez’s effect on the game almost constantly. @benclemens.bsky.social previews the AL Wild Card Series between Houston, the first division winner without a winning record, and Chicago, the unexpected contender:

They say baseball is the American pastime, but ball games have been played in the Americas for more than 3,500 years. Today, like the mythical Maya heroes Hunahpu and Xbalanque, we stand on the precipice of Xibalba, the Underworld, the Place of Fright, and present ourselves for divine judgment.
The victors will receive immortality. The defeated will envy the dead.
Hi, I’m Matt Vasgersian for NBC Sports, alongside C.J. Nitkowski, John Kruk and Joey Votto, and it is our pleasure to welcome you to the concrete Xibalba of unincorporated Cobb County, Georgia, for the National League Wild Card Series.
