The library isn't your mommy or daddy. Nobody is forcing you to check out any books. Nobody is forcing you to read any books. If you don't like a book, don't read it. If you don't want your kids reading the book, grow up, be a parent, and choose a different book.

Gloria Steinem died with fewer rights than she had during her lifetime. That fact needs to be front and centre of every media report, every dedication, every discussion of her death.

I am masking up to take my dog out because the wildfire smoke is so bad, even with a KN95 it smells terrible and gives me a bit of a headache... and my poor pup doesn't understand.

It seems to me that if you or I must choose between two courses of thought or action, we should remember our dying and try so to live that our death brings no pleasure to the world.

Reading ‘American Struggle’ by Jon Meacham and that quote sums up how I feel about it all right now.
Quote on page: “Nations reel and stagger on their way; they make hideous mistakes; they commit frightful wrongs; they do great and beautiful things. And shall we not best guide humanity by telling the truth about all this, so far as the truth is ascertainable?” - W.E.B Du Bois

At the end of the day, don’t we all just want a cottage in the Scottish Highlands, an Agatha Christie novel, an alluring rainstorm, a crackling fire, a kettle on the stove, and a basket of freshly-baked emotional support scones?

ALA is disappointed in the FCC's vote to impose a new bidding portal on the #ERate program, an essential source of support for internet in America's libraries. After years of progress toward streamlining the process for applicants, this decision is a step backwards. More: www.ala.org/news/2026/04...

I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.

This quote says it all. You get to decide what your child reads, but that same right belongs to other parents too. Freedom means choice, not control. When we start deciding what *other people’s* kids can read, we cross from guidance into censorship. Respect your values. Let others do the same.
Quote from Voltaire that says: think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so too.
