Thought I'd try ChatGPT again after a long time of using Claude. ChatGPT just feels a lot less steerable. With Claude I know I can get it to search by asking it to. I can generally "guide" Claude down certain ways of thinking or certain idea paths. ChatGPT seems more opaque.

Too much social media posting is how people want the world to be rather than how it is. It's human to want the world to be a certain way but when you get a room of 1000 people who only want to talk about an ideal world and not the real world, you get a lot of the bad stuff of social media.

I always run cold so been logging some climate metrics. The house is around 67.2 °F (19.5 °C) at 50% RH which I find chilly. Turning on a mini forced air heater around my desk brings up the temperature to 70.6 °F (21.4 °C) at 48% RH which I find much more comfortable.

Truth Social is where the man who thinks he runs the country announces his latest move.

X is where the man who actually runs the country gets his ideas for the president's next move.

Threads is where people proudly resist both of them by patronizing a different billionaire who agrees with whatever the president says.

Bluesky is where people are absolutely furious with the president's latest move and know exactly who to blame: the headline writers at the New York Times.

Facebook is where people think the president's latest move was opening a casino for dolphins in Gaza with Jesus and they love it.

Ran pprof with my Go #atproto labeler. 20% of my runtime was spent reading from the jetstream websocket and 4% on JSON parsing. Started terminating TLS upstream of the labeler and now the jetstream reader is taking up 15% of the runtime and 5% is on JSON parsing.

With TikTok I'm afraid that: 📍 The USG wants to ban TikTok because its algo doesn't take USG policy into account 📍 This sets a precedent that any large social media service must follow USG policy 📍 Bluesky and Mastodon are banned after a certain scale because they allow algo choice Scary precedent

This is right: many auto safety regulations have reduced traffic fatality rates. Similarly, many fire safety regulations save lives. But with both, there’s a danger: if traffic safety regulations are designed without regard for fire safety, or vice versa, the result can be MORE lives lost.
