Instead of any one social media platform, everyone could have their own web 1.0 HTML website that acted as a sort of blog, with a FOSS RSS scraper that would tell you when someone you follow updates their site. HTML is easy to code and web hosting is like $10-$15/month.

I say let the gaming industry go to hell. The big companies caused this crisis, but AAA games with huge budgets are only a minority of the games I play, personally. Great video games will still be made by indie developers.
