"They're not misunderstanding the film; they're co-opting a message"
Screencap from the interview linked in the quoted post

Marlow Stern (the interviewer): You have one of the most renowned replies in Twitter history. Elon Musk tweeted out, “Take the red pill,” then Ivanka Trump enthusiastically wrote, “Taken!” to him, and then you replied, “Fuck both of you.” I’m curious how you feel about the co-opting of “The Matrix” by those on the right who don’t really seem to understand its messaging.

Lilly Wachowski: I mean, I can’t sit in a room and explain the movie to every single person who watches it. Even if I did sit in a room with Elon Musk and Ivanka Trump — yikes — it doesn’t matter. They’re not misunderstanding the film; they’re co-opting a message. And that’s what fascists do: They co-opt the messages of progressives and use it to their benefit to confuse and obfuscate what is going on and the intention of their ideology. They do it with everything. They do it with Martin Luther King Jr. Look at how they’ve changed the idea of what antisemitism is.

MMR is 97% effective. BUT: - Some may not mount a robust enough immune response to vax for a variety of reasons - Protection CAN wane if there's been a major immune disruption, though this is rare - Most pertinent: intense, prolonged exposure to someone with measles can supersede protection

This is not what slop refers to. I'm not being purely academic about this. The conflation does matter. Because this is a type of conglation that people do to make any reasonable critique of "A.I." seem overwrought. "Oh they said the same thing about the internet!" And it is not true.

First day of classes 26-27, which marks my 27th year in libraries, and my 27th academic year 🎉 I usually take a first-day-of-school picture every year. First set of pictures are my first day of classes (1st pic is day before) here in Maine, and today (2019–2026). 2026 Max has seen some things!
Me, taking a selfie in a bathroom mirror, the day before classes begin. I’m wearing a blue button up shirt, blue jeans, and a gray cardigan. I am wearing dark glasses, and I am smiling real wide.

People tell me they like suits but don't have occasions to wear one. You can wear a suit to court, funerals, and religious services. Doesn't have to be your trial, friend's burial, or religion you believe in. Go to random trials, attend a stranger's burial, join multiple religions. Try it sometime.

So young adults, who usually interact with their friends online, are told that type of contact doesn’t count. And disabled young adults who need to lean on that style of connection are disregarded in the analysis—even as we make more of them in an ongoing public heath disaster.

Also why people here are unbothered by being smaller than X - most everyone here is actually real, and not a dick.

Making this opt-out instead of opt-in because of all the nuances involved is exactly the wrong way to address nuance
Upcoming Change to AI-Assisted Search and Ask This Document (AI Ask)
Effective September 1, 2026, EBSCO will transition AI-Assisted Search and Ask This Document (AI Ask) beta from opt-in to opt-out, making both features available by default across applicable researcher interfaces, including EBSCOhost and EBSCO Discovery Service.

Libraries will continue to have full administrative control through EBSCO Experience Manager (EEM). Any existing customizations or decisions to disable these features will remain unchanged through the transition. EBSCO initially used an opt-in model to respect libraries’ varying policies and readiness to adopt AI. However, customers reported that limited awareness, competing priorities, and uncertainty about administrative responsibilities often prevented enablement. Customer feedback and usage data also indicate that these features help researchers discover and use trusted, library-provided content more easily.

Moving to an opt-out model will make the features more accessible while preserving institutional choice. Libraries may disable either feature based on their policies, and both are clearly labeled and optional for users.

For more information about these features or instructions for opting out, visit EBSCO Connect.
