I feel like for a new social network to really take off it would need a substantial marketing budget. Bsky is great for what it is but it's a niche site which makes it of limited use for things like advertising local events and connecting with your personal network.

I feel like there has got to be a market opportunity for a non-evil social media company. Big hurdle to get it started up until there's a large enough network, but I have to imagine that a lot of people and businesses would flee Meta if there was an even somewhat viable alternative.
