100% agree My ma’s nursing degree meant stable, mostly union work for decades. My life would look very different without that stability and it’s one of the degrees barred from student loans because nurses don’t get paid enough. They are such numties.

My mother got certified in cosmetology and that’s part of how she was able to raise my three brothers and I. These people are assholes who experience the world solely through “takes” hinging on misogyny and the like.

You can toss washed and well dried basil with oil, then freeze it on sheet pans and toss the frozen leaves in bags and they can be used like fresh. But the freeze dried we made in 4H tasted more like the dry herb, which is a very different flavor: toasty like the basil like in Annie’s noodles.

you will encounter more opportunities in life to change the batteries on a smoke alarm than you will to run into a burning building and no one gives a shit you changed those batteries but it is still very important and why are you waiting on a burning building, know what i’m saying, it’s a metaphor

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

On wet fallen leaves. When that grocery store was missing medium tortillas for breakfast burritos, it was easy to divert to a different store on the way back that never has parking nearby. One teen thinks being seen w/wagon is soooo embarrassing so the wagon’s name is WOE (Wagon of Embarassment).

out even on dry days & then I am limited on how much heavy stuff I can get. I just did my biweekly Big Shop at a store that’s just under a mile away, in the rain, & had a grand old time. I didn’t have to stress about crossing Flatbush to the weird parking lot that smells like pee or my bike sliding

If you live where you can walk to your grocery store and other errands, I emphatically recommend getting a collapsible wagon. I’d been Team Grannycart since my living in SF 30 years ago, but the wagons have gotten so good! Technically, I could bike to the store, but biking in Flatbush freaks me

Gasp! I grew up with outdoor cats/ barn cats and soooo many died awful deaths. One kitten was carried away by a raptor! Multiple dog injuries, several car squishes. Fluffy1 survived the first car squish, but was never quite the same. Fluffy2 didn’t. We have indoor cats now.

I spy one of my progressive county committee reps, Gina Anderson. She must’ve worn out a pair of sneakers canvassing this year for Rep Your Block candidates and winning her own race! She spends time explaining this process to neighbors, is responsive and proactive.

Thoughts and prayers (and hibaclens and bactine)! This derpalerp gave me cat scratch fever last winter by leaping onto my shoulders from the floor, missing, then digging his claws in to climb my back. I got to be the fun patient with an oozy wound the residents all wanted photos of.

As school and winter asks pile up, Anna Holmes’ new book felt VERY useful. Her points about giving a no or a pause when I don’t actually know how I feel about a demand on my time were wildly helpful. It’s a couple hour listen, read by Anna. 💙📚💡 libro.fm/audiobooks/9...

The government moving or hiding jailed people to avoid review by courts isn't some loophole in our habeas corpus rights. This government behavior has been considered a violation of the people's habeas corpus rights since at least the Habeas Corpus Act of 1679. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habeas_...
Jailors were forbidden to move prisoners from one prison to another or out of the country to evade the writ. In case of disobedience jailers would be punished with severe fines which had to be paid to the prisoner.[5][6]

The websites are terrible & conspire against us. Like why do they reset the whole itinerary every time you mistype your credit card & have to prove you’re human?!? If this whole NYT thing doesn’t work out for Paul, you can be the first client of the Paul ford travel agency.

And now Paul is in charge of travel and I am released of responsibility forevermore. I’m going to refer to him as the Paul ford travel agency. (Fiascos included sending family to area plagued w/wildfire smoke, a tornado, one wildly expensive hotel with moldy room and a massive power outage).

When I was a legal secretary, I would email a travel agent bracketed travel dates and preferences, hotel wishlist and even concierge requests. And I’d get it all back with color coded options and a list of choices to be made and it was GLORIOUS. I made fiasco-level mistakes on last two bookings

If you know anyone who works for DHS or for a law enforcement, probation, etc. agency that cooperates with ICE, read this to them and ask them questions. If you work for a prosecutor/sheriff/police/governor/mayor that says it does not cooperate with ICE, but also does not investigate it, same.

go rogue, they do what fires do: they burn until they hit a barrier, run out of fuel or are suppressed. If you design AI software without barriers, don’t limit its fuel & don’t supervise it in a way to easily suppress its ability to harm people, you’re lighting fires in houses with no sprinklers.

Maureen Flaherty @maureenflaherty.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
I’ve been trying to put this in context of my work in construction. NYC building codes are very clear: if I renovate a building & remove the fire alarm system & sprinklers to put up new wallpaper, but don’t put a new fire safety system in place, I go to jail if people die in a fire. Fires don’t

i am genuinely bewildered by people who say that the rise of white nationalism in the republican party is a response to the "woke left." like, did the woke left cause pat buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign? is the woke left why steve king had a long career in congress?

Just to clarify for everyone: large language models can ONLY output text and images. That’s it. Period. When one of the big companies says “our agent went rogue” what they mean is “we hand-wrote software that blindly executes any code an LLM outputs and let it run completely unsupervised.”

He told me that to resolve it faster, I should use a theragun between sessions because most people can’t do the hard massage without instinctually
