📢 The PM'S promise to amend the triple lock next parliament is good news for the public finances, and for the vulnerable pensioners who lose far more from a broken care system than they gain from a random ratchet on their pension ⤵️
Ruth Curtice, Chief Executive of the Resolution Foundation, said:
“The triple lock is a terribly designed policy that has cost far more than originally anticipated and yet failed to reduce pensioner poverty. The Prime Minister has been under pressure to show that he can take tough decisions on public spending – and scrapping the triple lock is a good way to demonstrate that.
“Recycling the savings from scrapping the triple lock into social care will especially help vulnerable pensioners who stand to lose far from a broken care system than they gain from a random ratchet on how the State Pension is increased.”

The standard of debate about local gove devolution in hampshire had dismal. Mostly nlnny's from posh parishes worried about being in larger unitaries. Devolution brings joined up services, long term planning and fiscal freedom from the treasury. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/... this worth a listen.

Not sure why the tourist tax was headline on BBCPM but the debate heavily influenced by the Westminster establishment / BBC view that those provincial types couldn't be trusted to make the decisions. Patronising and wrong. Devolution is the way forward. The deadhand of the treasury needs to go

Feel bit sorry for prince george. Being taken to school by mummy and daddy at age 13 is humiliating. At that age id spent 5 years catching the bus to school in Portsmouth. You can dislike the monarchy as archaic and pointless and feel sympathy for their lack of freedom

So, if I understand Nigel Farage's argument correctly it is: "Everyone I trusted and elevated into a position of responsibility is constantly doing crimes that benefit me but of which I somehow have no knowledge. I am a man with the character, judgement, and intelligence to run the country." Ok.

Today is #Playday2026! The theme this year is “Play - here, there, everywhere”. All children and teenagers have the right to time, space and freedom to play – here, there and everywhere.
The Playday graphic This Playday, we're calling for all children to have access to:

• playful moments.
Small moments of play, at home and out and about, throughout the day can make a big difference to children's everyday lives.

• everyday adventures.
Play doesn't need to involve expensive activities, costly toys, or trips to far-off destinations, the simplest and free ideas are often the most fun.

• play their way around their neighbourhood.
Making everyday journeys, to school, nursery, shops or the park, more playful and child-friendly can be enjoyable for all.

• inclusive and welcoming environments.
Spaces and places where children of all ages and abilities feel they belong, will make a real difference to their enjoyment of play.

Worth a watch. Not much between him and the centre left. But politics gets in the way of reaching consensus on the big issues. Like all torys his loyalty is to the party rather than to the country. Hence his words about brexit having the potential to be a success. Bit of a nimby on local issues too

It really does feel like a race to the bottom which Badenoch is happy to join. The likliehood of a Reform / Tory coalition government looms large. At what point do centrist tories.. Hunt,Dineage, Darren Hinds say enough is enough we want know part in that or will party loyalty come first.
