I'd add David Cameron for starting this with his cavalier campaign and putting his party before country.

Telling that at #bbcnewsatone they could only find Chris Philp, the awful Pickles and IDS to interview. It says something when IDS is the most lucid. Still think torys will do a deal with reform... their thirst for power is too much.

If this week's Badenoch shitshow doesn't send the Torys into permanent oblivion I despair for this country. Economically illiterate, uncaring and unserious.

Richard Parker Mayor of West Midlands discussing #housingcrisis on #BBC ##weekendnewsatone. On top of subject and solution focused. Reminder that devolution is at the heart of economic growth. So much better than the newspaper hack and policy wonk who started the debate.

Yes. It wasn't all bad but by any objective analysis it was a really bad time...industrial conflict, economic shocks, political weakness, power cuts, terrible public services, violent conflict in Northern Ireland, lazy misogny and racial tensions. We were truly the sick man of europe.

First venture into watching #traitors on #bbc. Utterly underwhelmed, about as captivating as hide and seek and pass the parcel. The only thing I learned is Ross Kemp buys his clothes at Cotton Traders.

I remember the 1970s he is largely right about then. The UK was a mess. The economic growth in the 1980s was largely down to the bonanza of north sea oil receipts...the opportunities it offered were wasted with short term sugar rushes to the economy.. Thats her legacy

📢 The PM'S promise to amend the triple lock next parliament is good news for the public finances, and for the vulnerable pensioners who lose far more from a broken care system than they gain from a random ratchet on their pension ⤵️
Ruth Curtice, Chief Executive of the Resolution Foundation, said:
“The triple lock is a terribly designed policy that has cost far more than originally anticipated and yet failed to reduce pensioner poverty. The Prime Minister has been under pressure to show that he can take tough decisions on public spending – and scrapping the triple lock is a good way to demonstrate that.
“Recycling the savings from scrapping the triple lock into social care will especially help vulnerable pensioners who stand to lose far from a broken care system than they gain from a random ratchet on how the State Pension is increased.”

The standard of debate about local gove devolution in hampshire had dismal. Mostly nlnny's from posh parishes worried about being in larger unitaries. Devolution brings joined up services, long term planning and fiscal freedom from the treasury. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/... this worth a listen.

In large part, but other government's of all persuasions are as guilty. The focus of power on Westminster, the lack of funding and responsibilities given ro local leaders also a factor. Labour seemed to have grasped this....but seem to be in reverse.

Not sure why the tourist tax was headline on BBCPM but the debate heavily influenced by the Westminster establishment / BBC view that those provincial types couldn't be trusted to make the decisions. Patronising and wrong. Devolution is the way forward. The deadhand of the treasury needs to go
