next you'll tell me that getting power out of a big flat panel made of sand with no moving parts that just turns free sunlight into electricity is way cheaper than finding a rock deep below ground that secretly has flammable juice and digging a big straw down and slurping it up and exploding it.

The image is of a four panel comic.
In the first panel we see Sarah, the protagonist, next to a stick figure labeled “AI”. The stick figure says, “my outputs look just like yours now.”
The second panel zooms in on Sarah’s face. Above her we see text reading “I think”.
The third panel zooms in closer on Sarah’s face. Text above her reads “you missed”.
The fourth panel shows Sarah drawing happily in a sunlit room. The text above her reads “the point”.

I think it's ill-advised and anti-democratic to introduce an omnibus bill, cite a crisis, and rush major changes to labour and environmental law. It's going to provoke aggressive resistance and risks, ironically, slowing down the projects the government is so keen on. It's going to be a huge mess.

In June I did a calculation of the downstream environmental and harm of a strike on a refinery like this, and I’ll repost it here: The Moscow Oil Refinery processes 12M tonnes of crude a year, ≈ 240,000 barrels a day. It's in a residential area, with people living within 500m of the tanks.

I am in fact extremely angry about Bush v. Gore and have written about it often. But that's the side Ralph Nader was on. Bush winning wasn't an incidental byproduct of Nader's campaign -- it was the outcome he sought to achieve and did (by, for example, refusing to stop running in swing states)

FDR had some great ideas (and some, uh, Korematsus) but if you’re looking for a president who truly understood the white American psyche, you want LBJ

worth tying this into the political economy of the slave south as well. from roughly the 1820s onwards, slavery became enormously lucrative in ways that had never been seen before. slave traders became millionaires. large planters had tremendous purchasing power. just huge amounts of wealth.

Yet another issue where every single person who touched it needs to end up in jail for us to have any semblance of the rule of law. You cannot have a functional democracy where the government creates a plan to literally throw away votes from places that don't support the incumbent party.

After FDR cleaned up the mess created by Calvin Coolidge and blamed on Herbert Hoover, Democrats spent decades reminding voters what the two parties had done. In recent generations, that basic act of politicking has been deemed impolite by Democratic leaders. That needs to end.
