The arrest has sent shockwaves around the world, as media and the public continue to learn more about Jeffrey Epstein’s network and correspondence. For Andrew, it was the latest turn in a long history of scandal and allegations (which he has denied)

In response to announcement that he will be a new CBS contributor, Andrew Huberman tweeted “I’ve always gone issue-by-issue on health & science, spoken to experts w/a range of takes & presented where I see the center of (data) mass pointed. I’ll do the same with @CBSNews”. In Sept he posted this:
Screenshot of tweet from Huberman that reads: “The other is that dog breeds w/different shaped heads are predictive of their demeanor and intelligence. And while I don’t! believe in Phrenology I now do pay some attention to how the shapes of peoples heads relates to their intellect and steadiness, or lack thereof.”

Some professional news: After six amazing years at @quantamagazine.bsky.social and @simonsfoundation.org, I am joining the staff of @vanityfair.com as Director of Audience and Digital Operations. I can’t wait to do cool things at a publication I’ve loved since I was a kid.

Breaking News Consumer's Handbook

1. In the immediate aftermath, news outlets will get it wrong.
2. Don't trust anonymous sources.
3. Don't trust stories that cite another news outlet as the source of the information.
4. There's almost never a second shooter.
5. Pay attention to the language the media uses.
- "We are getting reports"... could mean anything.
- "We are seeking confirmation"... means they don't haveit.
- "[News outlet] has learned"... means it has a scoop or is going out on a limb.
6. Look for news outlets close to the incident.
7. Compare multiple sources.
8. Big news brings out the fakers. And photoshoppers.
9. Beware reflexive retweeting. Some of this is on you.

Every summer since 1983, workers at Crater Lake National Park have gathered data about the lake’s famous clarity. The biologist Scott Girdner has led much of this work. When he retires, a hiring freeze will leave his position unfilled indefinitely. www.quantamagazine.org/mixing-is-th...

It's Don't Argue Inside Your Head With Other People Friday. There's no better day to practice gently moving your mind away when you find yourself arguing inside your head w/someone who's not present, or who it's not safe or not fair for you to argue with. Do this as many times as you need.

Gripe for Asana/Jira/Sprout and the like: It used to be that the user just went to a website and the website did the thing. I don't understand why we now have to go to a landing page and then click "Go to app," as if the webpage is itself an app. It's a website for a SaaS product!

I wrote to one of the best government climate scientists I know, and jokingly asked if he's been fired. The fact that our best scientists, even if they haven't been fired, cannot focus on work due to mental strain, hurts us all.
Amazingly, not yet. I've pretty much stopped doing any meaningful work and spend much of my time worrying how the CO2 group will make it
