I was interested to know why precisely the Orange Order feels they should be allowed to parade down Garvaghy Road. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drumcree_conf… I would summarise this as: The Orange Order was founded in 1795 with the explicit goal of being a bunch of massive twats. They […]

It's always easy to assume that people doing something you don't understand are being fantastically stupid. Like the Tories promising to end the £100,000 salary cutoff for child benefit. In the current climate, their headline policy is to increase benefits payments to people earning over £100 […]

Was just reminded of Dance of the Knights. I remember watching Romeo and Juliet by the Royal Ballet. I didn't actually know it contained this wonderful and incredibly famous piece of music. I was struck by how incongruous it was, at least to me. It was like Prokofiev had done about as much […]

Atomic OS images are awesome. I just noticed that one of the nodes in my home lab was down. Checked the logs, searched for the error message, discovered that it was a #Cilium bug triggered by the 7.2 kernel upgrade. I run #Fedora CoreOS in my lab, so rolling back to the previous OS image was […]

Shower thought on reading "buzzing like a perfectly tuned bass string". Surely within quite a wide range a bass string sounds good however it is tuned. A bass string on its own doesn't need to be tuned. 2 bass strings need to be tuned. And to play well with others they need to conform to some […]

Interesting ACPI insight from @mjg59 codon.org.uk/~mjg59/blog/p/systemio…
codon.org.uk
SystemIO conflicts are not firmware bugs
I’m looking at something entirely unrelated, but tripped over some search results that made me realise that a lot of people still think getting errors like ACPI Warning: SystemIO range 0x0000000000001828-0x000000000000182F conflicts with OpRegion 0x0000000000001800-0x000000000000187F indicate a firmware bug. This is generally untrue. We need to dive a little into what ACPI is to clarify why. The Advanced Configuration and Power Interface1 specification defines a whole bunch of stuff, but what’s interesting to us here is the hardware abstraction it performs.

I’m looking to discuss a scope around bare-metal lifecycle architecture for GPU infrastructure. Your Redfish inspection work is a useful example of the decisions involved: when to trust out-of-band data, when to boot an agent, and how to keep the controller’s state consistent through failure.

The opportunity I’d put forward is to carry that expertise into GPU platform qualification, provider integrations and recovery semantics. The aim is a repeatable software platform for operating hardware as OpenAI’s planned compute buildout grows.

I’d want to align the technical scope with what you’d like to own next. Would you be open to a conversation?

This is Slaughterhouse's tap room just down the road from me. Don't think I've ever been to a tap room. They've literally just built a tiny bar in the brewery and some makeshift tables. Open 3 days a week. And the beer is perfect 👌🍻
Bright blue double doors of a shed. Stools made of kegs with wood on top inside and out. Table made of keg. Dark inside. Small bar and beer brewing equipment just visible.
