Interesting to compare the 2 sea-ice indices: extent and area. While Arctic sea-ice extent is still approaching its annual minimum, sea-ice area has already passed its minimum. This suggests that initial freeze-up mainly increases ice concentration before expanding the cover. @osi-saf.eumetsat.int
