I thought it was just me finding the theme super off-putting. Glad to see others are thinking the same thing

Software has licenses and IP just like art. Say you're working on a contribution for a project like Wine - how do you know you didn't just generate a snippet of leaked, copyrighted Windows source code?

City building two ways: Urban Sprawl with NBSP's snappy 3 player rules variant and Green City. I got steamrolled in both but still enjoyed the plays. Green City would be interesting at higher player counts - it felt a little skinny at 3.
Urban Sprawl's city grid populated with colorful 3d printed buildings. A tile based city transportation network made of trains, bikes, buses and walking paths.

Dominant Species with 6 is still excellent. It always helps to have squishy animals instead of cones... Looking forward to what @allplay.bsky.social does with the new edition and enjoying some fresh @heavycardboard.bsky.social DS content!
Ice slowly covers hexagon tiles representing the ancient earth. Cubes and squishy rubber animals represent the creatures living on tiles.

The way the deck models "tribal memory" is so cool. You get burned by a card a couple of times and start to remember what the back looks like 😅

We finally got our hands on our copy of Coast Watchers! Very nice to have tools included to eliminate the memory requirement in deduction. The allied player can refer to a mission tree and the Japanese can use notational chits to track sightings.
Coast Watchers as seen from the allies' side. An array of hidden cards stand behind several blocks, chits and pawns on a game board.

SDHistConNorth was a great time! The only thing better than the games were the kind and welcoming people at the table. My wife and I had a great time. Thanks to all the folks teaching games and the @sdhistcon.bsky.social staff making sure things were running smoothly!

Sorry, I can see this conversation is going nowhere if you believe that.

I don't think it's even a powerful tool. It's just disguised in conversation in a way that makes it easy to deceive people that are not subject experts. People always think "it doesn't work in X industry I know, but I hear it's fine in Y". It's never fine in Y if you talk to an expert...

I currently work in the software industry and I can tell you right now, it's not used in good faith. Teams work harder for less pay to fix mistakes while under management pressure to use tools that end up creating more problems. It's like having infinite junior programmers that can't improve.

Matt @matt.blobfish.zone · 13/07/2026
This use case basically has no sustainability. Products will get worse, not be maintainable, and be full of security holes. They're just filling in plausible results, which does not result in products with real lifecycles outside of enormous manual (human) toil to fix things.

The Larkins and the Hastings had a pretty good thing going there for a while 😂
A scattering of notes family members wrote to each other. A Hastings family tree is visible. All the components to the game returned to the London table. 1841 is on the year tracker.

At SD HistCon North in St Paul!!! Started out with a bang playing Microverse. Ran real quick to get some fancy coffee between my scheduled games. Can’t wait to finish off the day with a couple more games I’m super excited about. @sdhistcon.bsky.social

When me and my wife got laid off we had good luck with temporary health insurance. it was under $100 a month and they let you extend it up to 12 months or so. Cobra is insanely expensive

Capitalism lives in the eternal "now". It doesn't want you to know about history, it doesn't want you to know art has existed for tens of thousands of years, it wants you slavering for whatever's coming NEXT, whatever's HOT and NEW, and ignoring everything else. You do not have to do this.

AI is "just a tool" but also "every child on the planet must be forced to learn to prompt (train) the machines and edit its output and that is the future of education" do not make sense. If it is "just a tool," we do not have to repurpose the entire architecture, goals, of education.

If a company sells your call for LLM training, your voice might be regurgitated in someone else's output in some form without your consent. It's really gross and we need better rights around our data and personal identity imo

Matt @matt.blobfish.zone · 30/04/2026
A long while ago I worked at a shop that basically ingested these calls and did simple text to speech to identify common issues for companies. Stuff like surfacing "spilled or cold gravy" as a super common issue for food delivery. LLM training makes this stuff way sketchier, imo

well it depends who you ask because I would say there is no magic and the reason it works at all is they have infinite compute cycles and they do everything two or twenty-four times over and in any other context that would be considered malpractice. But you obviously feel differently.

The Amazing World of Tomorrow
A comic strip titled The Amazing World of Tomorrow.
A food delivery robot cooler drives down a sidewalk.
It crashes into a rental scooter.
It backs up.
It crashes into the rental scooter again. The scooter wobbles.
The scooter falls to the ground as the food delivery robot backs up again.
A driverless taxi crashes into both the scooter and the food delivery robot sending them flying.
