Interesting. Further down the thread is the chart for public school, which has decreased! I think that part of the problem is that we are focused on the elite schools which have (I think) gone up more than this . . .

I’m concerned that the election is weeks out and there is no strong vision/plan for an immediate agenda to rein in the fascist authoritarianism. It needs to be articulated so that the election functions as a clear mandate for accountability. Who is getting impeached first?

How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives. What we do with this hour, and that one, is what we are doing. A schedule defends from chaos and whim. It is a net for catching days. It is a scaffolding on which a worker can stand and labor
with both hands at sections of time. A schedule is a mock-up of reason and order
—willed, faked, and so brought into being; it is a peace and a haven set into the wreck of time; it is a lifeboat on which you find yourself, decades later, still living. Each day is the same, so you remember the series afterward as a blurred and powerful pattern.There's a common notion that self-discipline is a freakish peculiarity of writers—that writers differ from other people by possessing enormous and equal portions of talent and willpower. They grit their powerful teeth and go into their little rooms. I think that's a bad misunderstanding of what impels the writer. What impels the writer is a deep love for and respect for language, for literary forms, for books. It's a privilege to muck about in sentences all morning. It's a challenge to bring off a powerful effect, or to tell the truth about something. You don't do it from willpower; you do it from an abiding passion for the field.

There is a scholar who writes about how there is no such thing as any singular mathematical achievement level, because math is so complex, and different areas require different skills, and so any one measure is very oversimplified (Downton). That's a nice nerdy mathy response

Another thing I have done if I am in a context in which it is used a lot, I preemptively call it out so that no one has to experience that "gotcha" moment. Like I mention something about how kids take up language (and identities) from what we say, like "low kids."

I just ask friendly questions until it gets weird. Like, low how? One test score? Low in everything? That's so unusual. What can they do well? Or I might tell them about the kids in my studies who describe themselves as "low" or "slow" because they have heard it used about them (kids are smart).

Excellent question. I don’t know of a study. The whole area of coteaching is massively absent from research. I think it is a critical area to research! One of my doc students is doing work in this area. This would be a great study.
