Spectral Tower has a bad rep but honestly I felt it was more like outsider art when I played it. Yeah it's not made like other games and some of the choices make absolutely no sense but there's a kind of fun and wonder in digging into games this bizarre and obtuse.

It was fascinating digging into the PC98 and seeing what happens when you can just have characters who are adults who have sex in an RPG, and not just in the 'here's a reward for romancing one of your teammates' that gets so much hype these days. Just... RPG stories where adult stuff happens.

My parents randomly had The Man from Snowy River and Return to Snowy River on VHS! Watched them a ton as a kid but literally the only scene from either I can remember now is the guy showing up and beating the snooty aristocrats at their own riding competition with the mannequins and stuff.

Then I'm sure GMG would be happy to change things so they don't run the risk of being misinterpreted as using nazi dogwhistles in their stuff. And more people should keep an eye out for 1488. It stops being an effective dogwhistle if everyone recognizes it.

Why the .88? Why not .89? Why not aim for a clean percentage like a straight 76, 77 78 or 79% discount instead of a weird 78.something discount percentage? Someone chose this number. I get what you're saying but what insane coincidence would make them do exactly 11 cents below the others?

Kurt Vonnegut man

Kurt Vonnegut tells his wife he's going out to buy an envelope:
"Oh, she says, well, you're not a poor man.
You know, why don't you go online and buy a hundred envelopes and put them in the closet?
And so I pretend not to hear her. And go out to get an envelope because I'm going to have a hell of a good time in the process of buying one envelope.
I meet a lot of people. And see some great looking babies. And a fire engine goes by.
And I give them the thumbs up. And I'll ask a woman what kind of dog that is. And, and I don't know. The moral of the story is — we're here on Earth to fart around
And, of course, the computers will do us out of that. And what the computer people don't realize, or they don't care, is we're dancing animals. You know, we love to move around.
And it's like we're not supposed to dance at all anymore."

I'm not one to seek out sealed retro games, but the one game I'm trying to make an exception for is kusoge PS1 RPG Satomi no Nazo, whose devs slapped on "Recommended RPG" stickers with no reviews cited after receiving retail copies from Sony, which the latter HATED. I think about that a lot. A lot.

A copy of Satomi no Nazo still clearly in its shrinkwrap, complete with the PlayStation branding along the bottom of the plastic and its infamous bright pink sticker that claims, with no citations whatsoever, that it's a "recommended RPG."
