Hey, News Outlets! How about just ignoring Donald Trump? It will drive him crazy. His parents never gave him enough attention, so he is still a thirsty brat who needs CONSTANT attention. Start the news with "Trump lied again today" and then move on to news about people/things that are interesting.

@bencarlson007.bsky.social @michaelbatnick.bsky.social andor: it is a slow burn with a lot of character establishment. I had to restart it twice and get to ep 5 or 6 and then I got it and was hooked. If you get to the episode where he's the pilot, it might hook ya. Best star wars stuff in years

If anyone questioned the value of our tax dollar investment into some programs, look no further than all the things that are having issues without those programs in place, such as the screw worm outbreak, the food borne illness problem. That shows you the value of those investments by former admins

@bencarlson007.bsky.social @michaelbatnick.bsky.social commercialization versus monetization. I think the word you are looking for in today's episode around weddings is the monetization, AKA effectively making money off of your wedding. Maybe that might fit more in what you guys were describing?

Watch both what someone says and what they do.. look for alignment.. look for congruence between them. Words and actions are important.. But mostly actions.

The news about an AI system accessing another company without permission tells me either they are incompetent or malicious. If they set it to task & couldn't contain it, they're incompetent. If they set it to task to do it on purpose, they're malicious. It may be marketing. Either way they look bad.

Someone came to my house to try and sell me on something having to do with energy and I had to "old man tap the sign" in my window that says very clearly "No Solicitation" They didn't understand.. so I had to explain to them what "soliciting" is and that they were "soliciting"

The richest part of this is that Trump was famously goaded into running by Obama’s WHCA speech which imagined a garish Trump-branded White House with a bunch of tacky additions, and that’s exactly what he did.

Pretty sure that the #spacex ipo is just another version of "privatize the gains, socialize the losses" of risk management but doing it by leveraging market rules around indexes. Changing the rules on how index funds bring companies in allows them to foist a money losing company onto retail market.

@bencarlson007.bsky.social re: ATC comment about the rules. I don't mind them changing the rules per se. I mind them changing the rules under the circumstances, especially flimsy the S1 looks. Ask yourself, "Why change NOW?" Because they could have done it any other time.. It's a timing issue 1/

One thing people can do to have an impact is redirect their resources; shift time, focus, energy, dollars etc. away from people and institutions that they no longer want to support. For example, if you don't like what's happening at "60 minutes", stop giving CBS and their parent company anything

If data centers are so beneficial, people should be clamouring to have them built in their communities. If they are so desirable, when one community says they don't want it, another 10 should be lined up behind them, right? I wonder why that isn't the case? 🤔 /S

@bencarlson007.bsky.social @michaelbatnick.bsky.social regarding the conversation around storage and memory stocks.. at what point do we start considering those like a commodity, because they're interwoven into our daily lives so much? Is that a reasonable way to think about these companies?

Mamdani has demonstrated something that Democrats have largely forgotten. You can't just do good things for voters and expect to be rewarded for it. You have to tell them about it, over and over again. You have to advertise your work in office just as much as you did on the campaign to win it.

Solar power inverts the typical energy system needs: usually we have stored power in coal or natural gas and we consume it for generation. Instead we have generation and we need to expand and establish storage. It makes sense that until storage comes online more that we'll be stressing some systems.

Ten years ago today, in April 2016, the Boston Globe printed a satirical front page imagining a future Trump administration. The page was called "alarmist," "hyperbolic," "dystopian." But we’ve put up with so much since then it now looks like . . . a slow Thursday?
Boston Globe mock front page from April 9, 2016. Date says April 9, 2017, with giant headline “DEPORTATIONS TO BEGIN” and “Markets sink as trade war looms.”

I think not enough people understand that the pushback against renewables and EV's is money. Without getting too in the weeds: renewables cannot ever be as profitable as oil and gas. EV's don't make as much money as gas guzzlers. That's it. That's all you really need to know.

Appealing to a higher power by in king statements like "God's hand" or "this is God's will" is an attempt to manipulate by both simultaneously lend credibility through divine providence, while diffusing or removing accountability and responsibility when things go wrong.

A king on a sumptuous, much elaborated throne; in one hand he holds a sceptre of office, in the other, the leashes for two fierce stone dogs that guard the throne. The king's head has been replaced with a character who was used as the basis for MAD Magazine's Alfred E Neumann. The new head sports a conical dunce cap. Behind the king is a large group of 1960s business men, seated and standing, in conservative suits. The background is the view from the 80th floor of World Trade Center 3. The floor has been carpeted in sumptuous tabriz from the Ottoman court.

I keep coming back to the idea that people who behave badly in their current context didn't experience enough negative reinforcement feedback in the past to stop them from being assholes. Coupled with praise & positive reinforcement feedback from other shitty assholes in power makes for bad times.
