after using them in other languages, I really find myself wanting python to add compositional-style interfaces (if for no other reason than to force the lsp to provide code completion for subclasses)

It takes you 20 paragraphs to get to the part of the article where they admit that Mamdani isn't paying the influencers and the reason they are posting videos of the stuff Mamdani is doing is because people are interested in watching it.
The mayor’s office says that it does not pay the influencers. Still, their proximity and access to a figure as popular as Mr. Mamdani can help increase their own social media following and, by extension, potentially put them in a position to attract paid content sponsorships from commercial brands. Some influencers said that when they feature Mr. Mamdani, the videos get more likes and viewers watch longer.

For no real reason, I was looking up something about the ancestry of causal DAGs in path diagrams and came across this picture. I got to see it so you do to. HT to Sewall Wright who both set the course for a very useful analytical tool but also took the time to include cute drawings of guinea pigs
Sketch of Wright's path diagram showing the influence of heredity and environment on the inheritance of color of guinea pigs. Drawing is mostly a directed acyclic graph but includes four cute sideways drawings of guinea pigs.

here's the thing: stacked PRs only work if you don't plan on actually reviewing / changing them. Otherwise they're just a nightmare

Do you love providing useful outputs, or do you love building things? In an era of DS absolutely SATURATED with AI use, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I actually liked about being a data scientist. Especially as someone who’s purposefully stayed on the IC track.

The Democratic Party has let a consulting industry exploit elderly donors in its name, wreck its reputation and finances in the process, and walk away rich whether the party wins or loses. When a mirror is held up, the instinct is to break the glass rather than look. On why the press looks away:

This is a story about the Democratic Party captured by its consultants, and about what happens when the pro-democracy press is asked to say so.

good write up, quick read! an even short answer is that if you believe that user behavior interacts meaningfully with time (e.g. weekend users != weekday users), you cannot sample size your way out of a bare minimum of a week runtime, regardless of framework

giving everyone full access to a database via an agent interface is a lot like giving every toddler a drivers license and a ford f150. yes they’re now technically more self sufficient. but the adults in the room now have to keep the toddlers from injuring themselves/others while driving the trucks

STOP USING FLOATS

binary data was not supposed to have decimal parts!
Years of compiler development, yet no real-world use found for anything other than char and int!
Wanted to use decimal numbers anyway for a laugh? We had a tool for that: it was called FIXED-POINT ARITHMETIC
"x==x can be FALSE!", "1/0 is a number", "the sum of 1/10 and 2/10 is 0.30000004 - statements dreamt up by the utterly deranged

LOOK at what floating point numbers have demanding your respect for all this time, with all the circutis and data types with built for them

"Hello, I want to knof if f is a real number and less than -1 please?" "Sure that'll be f!=f?0:-1/0.f==f||f==-1.f/0?0:-1f>f"

THEY HAVE PLAYED US FOR ABSOLUTE FOOLS

Bridget is my aunt (she’s been cut out of the family for a very long time and wasn’t invited to my wedding). I hope she loses the runoff the other republican. It doesn’t undo the years of hurt she’s caused our family/her community, but maybe will get her to see that she’s been living in crazyville.

The fundraising texts you delete are working on someone. It’s infuriating and heartbreaking. An 85yo in Ohio gave more than double the value of his home. A 91yo in an Indianapolis senior facility gave 25K times. The DCCC/DSCC don’t just tolerate the spammers who exploit seniors. They take part.
