The incredibly eccentric Bardwell monument at St Edmund's, Southwold is the resting place of local architect William Bardwell d1853 and other members of his family. Built from brick it's clad in various tiles and odd pieces of mouldings, a real hotch potch of all sorts! #31DaysofGraves

Today's #31DaysOfGraves theme is "brick". My photo is of a mausoleum at #KensallGreen cemetery in #London. Sadly, many mausolea there are bricked-up as they had not been maintained and their doors were missing or broken and were getting vandalised. The inscription says "The tomb of the #Paul Family"
Photograph of a mausoleum built to resemble a classical temple. There are two columns either side of the bricked-up dorrway. The corners consist of two more square engaged columns. The pediment is decorated with curled vine leaves and a shield with an animal head, some form of cat I think. On the entablature is the inscription "The tomb of the Paul..." The last word is obscured by ivy but must be "family". To the left is a large tree.

On a visit to Dryburgh Abbey in the Scottish Borders, I encountered quite a few of these (rather weathered) headstones featuring what appears to be a person reading a book! 📖 Oddly, many of them look like they have also sunken into the earth... #31DaysOfGraves #Scotland #cemetery

Today’s prompt in #31DaysOfGraves is ‘ordinary’. - These images are from St John at Hackney Churchyard Garden, where the headstones of hundreds of ordinary Londoners from the 1800s have been moved to the perimeter of the space, creating an open public park for current ordinary Londoners.
The corner of a London park, parched grass surrounded by a red brick wall with trees and buildings beyond. In front of the wall are repositioned grey gravestones, stood in rows three deep. Two rows of grey, weathered gravestones against a red brick wall. #31DaysOfGraves Day 12 - Ordinary: Most C19th memorials in the Liverpool area are sandstone headstones of quite simple shapes with limited motifs. This is a typical one from Toxteth Park Cemetery. My PhD research showed that 27% of C19th memorials there are the same style as this one!
A simple curved top headstone made out of sandstone. It has a simple outline border and no other motifs. It commemorates Anne and Robert Redfern. The New Jewish Cemetery in Kraków overlaid with the text:

The theme for today's #31DaysOfGraves post is "ordinary". This tombstone is a fairly ordinary looking one amongst the grandeur of Père Lachaise. It commemorates, however, a very famous sociologist, Pierre #Bourdieu and his wife Marie-Claire. B wrote "Outline of a Theory of Practice", oft cited 1/2
A simple tombstone with a circular top. The inscription merely records the names and dates of Pierre and Marie-Claire Bourdieu. A flat slab covers the grave itself on which there are some flowers.
