If you're in Vienna and interested in the open web, I can *highly* recommend coming along to @atproto.wien meetups! The first three have been really fun, and we're starting to get a really awesome local community going 🦦

Honestly Heather I was thinking of you when I wrote this, and how *so many of us* who dare to speak in a small public way about anything are targeted and stalked by these fucks. The brilliant @katemanne.bsky.social term "himpathy" articulates how care and concern are directed to male aggressors.

Mostly it's just annoying - the guy himself is deeply unwell. But I draw the fucking line at the hand-wringing enablers who are 'just trying to help'. Yes. Who? (tk u. x)

You *know* he's convicted of stalking women. You've *read* the deranged letters you add as attachments. And you still think you're doing the right thing in sending them on his behalf to a woman you don't know? Two now from the same clergyman. I have gone fucking nuclear. Go White Knight elsewhere.

I and other *very slightly* prominent women have been the object of a mentally unwell man for years. I get off lightly - just infrequent emails, calls, texts, as he's barred from comms. But what REALLY GETS ME is the gullible men who believe his sob stories and EMAIL ON HIS BEHALF. WTAF MEN?!?!

1/ In August 1969 a gang of loyalists, fresh from burning Catholic-owned pubs in Belfast, walked into my mum's bar and asked if the town had any. Her Protestant customers said no. Eight in ten were, ours included. They called the men a taxi. 🧵

Informative and practical article from my lovely newsletter provider, @buttondown.com It punctures myths about email - the protocol is decentralised but the providers certainly aren't! - and explains some pitfalls of that consolidation (gmail, spamhaus) along with why things are how they are.

Email isn’t decentralized, and that’s fine
Email is open, but deliverability depends on a few big inbox providers. Why we traded some of email's decentralization to fight spam, and why that's fine.

+1 Notaries are all process and zero actual due diligence. total theatre and, ok, I am clearly the product of a common law country, but they're a total rent-seeking holdover from the worst instincts of civil law jurisdictions to tick boxes and ignore real world facts.

OpenAI are parasitic scum. As Wikimedia says; “AI companies are not doing enough to secure their systems and protect the public from the harm they cause.” These are DDOS attacks by a corporation's software doing exactly what it was designed to do. Why are we not seeing criminal charges?

To put some detail on this, on France Inter a student leader said kids in some Parisian lycées have no working toilets and need to go home to look after period stuff. One girl said she gets constant UTIs from not being able to go. Pretty shameful stuff.

At a tiny Kerry festival last month we met a friend and daughter. They said before the Bird family-run amusements at the Rose of Tralee open each year, they invite the SEN school nearby to enjoy them first. They slow down rides, quiet the music, and Mr & Mrs Bird welcome each child to the fair.
Outdoor colour photo of a tiny beachside amusement park on a cloudy, blue-sky day. There is a pink, yellow and green carousel for toddlers, and behind a green plastic palm fence a small covered boat-ride for little kids. Mountains and sea are in the far distance, and a big clouded but still blue sky.

For several years our family Christmas gift-list kept mistakenly including a random guy. A couple of years in, he replied, made a couple of good (or at least warm) jokes. We did cut him out (mostly) after that. After offering to adopt him. It's been 10 years and we still miss him.

I’ve said this before, but it’s sort of insane that no British political party is willing to champion Games Workshop, one of the country’s most successful, British born and run companies, and would much rather simp for Palantir or OpenAI

I’ll be honest, I couldn’t really face the thought of thinking more about the situation we’re in, but impulse bought it, and of course I was wrong: It’s actually really helpful to have it laid out so clearly. It takes the weight of analysing where we are and why off your mind.

I'm really surprised the Greens seem to have had no defences against entryism, a key spoiler tactic of the extreme left for, what, over a century now? In addition to the antisemitism the straight up un-seriousness of not locking the front bloody door is staggering.
