DoorDash spent $1.4M trying to stop Zohran Mamdani from becoming mayor. This week's historic $131.5M enforcement action against DoorDash for underpaying NYC delivery workers shows why. Yet another reminder that the only thing that can beat organized money is organized people.

There's a lot of discussion in code circles right now about cognitive debt - the idea that something goes wrong on prod and nobody knows how to fix it because nobody has a real mental model of how everything fits together. It's almost like doing the deep thinking and the grunt work is important 👀

I‘m sorry, but this reads like somebody with an addiction that genuinely needs help. If a friend told me they were talking and acting like this I’d be really worried!
Matt Van Horn, a serial entrepreneur and father of four, never turns his laptop off anymore. He has more than a half-dozen artificial intelligence agents running at all times in Anthropic's Claude Code.
Every 10 minutes or so, they ask him what to do next.
He keeps his laptop running at his kids' soccer practice, while dropping them off at school and in the hotel during vacations.
When he goes to sleep, one agent steps in to babysit the others.
Van Horn is one of many founders whose work has been transformed by AI. As he builds his latest company, he's used AI agents to help contribute to hundreds of projects on GitHub. But he and many other AI evangelists are also working longer hours than ever before as they grapple with anxieties about how Al might advance without them if they log off.
After 15 minutes of conversation with a Bloomberg reporter, he notes that most of his agents are probably waiting for his next prompt. "I don't have a therapist, but if I did, they'd be like, It's OK, Matt," he says with a laugh. "They said that agents were supposed to do our work for us, but I've never worked harder in my life. I just have 100 times the output that I had before."

This fucking book!!! Damn @mariadongwrites.bsky.social you have destroyed me yet again (I hope to have something more articulate to say lmao)
A white person's hand holding a book: Aviary: a novel by Maria Dong. The cover is yellow and the title us in pink with the author's name in white. Centered on the cover and overlapping the title is the bust of a Korean woman whose eyes are turned down. She has long black hair that ends in fringe...no wait are those feathers?

Cover for Maria Dong's AVIARY. It has a yellow background with the title in pink on top and the author's name in white below. In the middle is a painting of a woman with her eyes closed. She has long black hair that goes past the neck. That's the only thing past the nick except for what looks like a feather coming from the stump. This cover is gorgeous.Cover for Nick Roberts' LYLA, IN THE FLESH. A woman stares at you, you mainly see a tiny bit of the left side of her face, as it's going off cover. Her skin is very red (either paint/makeup or one hell of a sunburn that kills her) and lips even redder. She wears a pair of dark sunglasses with blood dripping off the frames. Look closer and you'll see a person wearing a mask that is white, but it's black around the eyes and mouth. The mask-wearer is wielding a big butcher knife.Cover for Leslie H. Whitten's PORGENY OF THE ADDER. In the top right corner, you see the glorious "Paperbacks From Hell" "sticker" (it's not really a sticker, as it's part of the book design). In huge white letters in the center of the book, the title is displayed, as well as the author's name and "Introduction by Will Errickson". There's also a review blurb that says ""TERROR PILES ON TERROR..." Saturday Review" and the tagline "A SPELLBINDING BLEND OF SEX, INTRIGUE, AND MYSTERY".

Above the title, a vampire is reeling back, his hands in front of him, backing away from something. He's bathed in red with slicked back black hair, white teeth and narrow face; you know, a vampire. Naturally, he's wearing a cape. Below Will Errickson's name, a hand holds a cross that is just generating golden light.Cover for Johanna Van Veen's BONE OF MY BONE. The title forms a cross taking up a good portion of the cover. "BONE" is written vertically and "OF MY BONE" cuts across horizontally, with the two BONEs sharing the "O" in BONE. Behind the title a nun rocking a bloody habit holds out a skull resting on a red pillow. The skull appears to be wearing a headdress of sorts, which appears to be made of jewels.

Cover for Sarah Langan's THE MISSING. It's designed like an old Paperbacks From Hell cover (or even an old VHS cover!), with a peeling sticker on the front that says "Bram Stoker Award Winner". There's a young woman under the title. She has brown hair and is wearing a white long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up to below her elbows. There's blood coming from the side of her mouth, and her hands are raised to her neck in an X formation. Blood is seeping from her right hand and I dare say she may be missing that ring finger.Cover for Stephen King's JOYLAND. A redheaded woman in a short green dress stares at you, her mouth open in surprise or shock. She leans against a wall and there is an old timey camera in her left hand.Cover for Taylor Z. Adams' SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH MADDIE. It's bathed in pink, and a person is sitting on a step wearing a sheet over their body, with the eyes cut out so the person underneath can see. They don't appear to be wearing anything else. Cover for Daniel Kraus' THEY THREW US AWAY. There's a blue bear with white eyes staring at you in the foreground, where in the back ground, heading up a hill, is a golden bear. At the top of the hill, a pink bear appears to be dancing.

@dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social what bothers me most, I think, is how publishers have given up on the mid list. If you aren’t a TikTok influencer, they barely pay attention. I sold 20k copies of my mystery novel—and the sequel sold 6000 in the first five months. But they refused to pub the third. 🤷🏻‍♀️
