In 2014, I interviewed a Columbia University student who went from class to class carrying the mattress she was raped on—a protest performance piece to remind college administrators what they put on her shoulders. Twelve years later, we still expect women on college campuses to carry that weight.

Some news this week about post-midterms. Perhaps obviously, a lot abt 2027-28 depends on Congr D leadership and their path. I’ll be happy to be proven wrong, but the signs *right now* are bad. Jeffries is not signaling strong accountability, and the centrist status quo forces look strong. 1/

my wife has a friend who sent Dolly Parton a painting she made & a letter explaining how much Dolly's music meant to her while she was transitioning. Dolly responded to it personally & paid for her top surgery. Sounds like an urban legend but it's real. I think we're going to more stories like this.

Fun fact: Dolly Parton spent decades quietly funding band uniforms and instruments at Black high schools across the South - never once putting her name on it. No headlines, no fanfare — just help, given because it was needed. Wonderful Heart ♥️ RIP Dolly ❤️

Recently learned that China has a stockpile of over 1.4 billion barrels and likely more, enough for them to run for an entire year without more oil. That's the only reason we haven't hit an oil shock already. It allowed China to take 5 million barrels per day of consumption from the market offline.

One of my favourite paintings, 'A Seated Woman Looking at a Child Through a Window', a ghostly 17th century work by the enigmatic Jacobus Vrel. Next to nothing is known about the artist, did he even exist? More than enough room for a Schalcken the Painter style BBC Ghost Story, I would've thought..!
A woman of indefinable age, seen from behind, leans against a window where a child’s face stealthily appears in the half-darkness. She seems to be trying to communicate with the little girl by placing her hand on the windowpane.
