I find myself explaining this at vintage shops often. Survivor bias is very much a thing in clothes. No, people weren't smaller then, bodies have always been diverse. A dress/shirt/etc. for a larger body could be taken in, made over, reworked in ways smaller clothes just couldn't.

Exactly! I spent a long time trying to dress 'normal' but not feeling happy in it. In NYC, seeing a guy in a kilt, with a pink mohawk, carrying groceries on a unicycle at 8am, I finally realized I could wear what felt good. Now I swan about like an Edwardian widow.

Agreed. It allows us to elide white guilt, by pretending to a marginalization that whites treat as equal to all others, so we don't actually have to deal with racism, because that's hard.

I got this finished up! :) It was done with watercolors, gouache, acrylic ink and walnut ink.
