We need to send a task force to Oileáin Chléire to figure out what they’re doing to be the only community in Ireland to lose less than 2 hours daylight. Must be a grant of some sort in this. #spéirghorm

Yikes! "We are out in solidarity with the entire public sector" is a very different affect to "we are out because people we see daily and used to view as colleagues have taken deliberate decisions to screw us over" anyway. Probably best not to overdo the comparing and contrasting!

(Will probably delete this because the notion of a hierarchy of strikers is bad solidarity, and I left before things got really bad in the UK anyway. Couldn’t resist the meme potential though.)

So grateful to hear the support for teachers work-to-rule in the media today. Nobody wants things to get to this point but needs must. The INTO and public sector unions have been looking for a negotiated pay agreement since June. Schools are underfunded, we are still seeing supersized classes of 30+

It would, I think, be worthwhile if those of us engaged in the work stoppage today, and the forthcoming strike days on the 14th & 21st (if they go ahead), were to observe the digital picket during those times. Posting is public engagement, and public engagement is part of your job. #digitalpicket

Catching up on #celebritytraitors: if we’re looking at the performance of the celebrity academics over the two series to provide an answer to the question “what provides greater insight into the human condition, the humanities or STEM?”, then it’s not looking good for the historians.

Really odd to choose an Irish folk song without acknowledging that Irish folk is extremely not in a position of needing to argue for its relevance right now. “We’ve recorded an album of hip-hop classics as chamber music to demonstrate that hip-hop is still relevant”.

Robert Eggers should adapt Disco Pigs, mostly so we can enjoy articles that say things like "he will film it in the original esoteric language of late 20th Century Cork" and "will recreate Sir Henry's and Mangan's with complete authenticity."

Now, I don’t think these are without their flaws as they do the usual social cognitive thing of individualising what is a far broader structural problem, resting in existing power structures. But they may be useful for individuals looking for individually tailored solutions.

Your occasional reminder that it’s quite easy to identify conspiracy theories when they’re aimed at other people’s prior assumptions, confirmation biases and sense of grievance and more difficult to do so when they’re aimed at our own.

I'll admit that I sometimes get caught out by different epistemologies when I've been doing wider reading on collective memory, and I see, e.g., a physical memorial being described as 'unsuccessful'. And my immediate reaction is "well, says who?. What's your empirical basis for making that claim?"
