Crucially, much of the CO2 that is being captured is then being used for "enhanced oil recovery". That is, it's being used to extract more fossil fuels.
CO2 captured, million tonnes per year, by sector and end use as of February 2026. Most CO2 is currently captured by the fossil-fuel industry – and then used to extract more fossil fuels. Fossil fuel processing produces ~49 of 62 Mt total, while enhanced oil recovery uses ~45 Mt. Source: IEA CCUS Projects database.

With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere,
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.
I warmly welcome the sagacious gesture and extend deepest gratitude to the leadership of both the countries and invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, 10th April 2026, to further negotiate for a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes.
Both parties have displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding and have remained constructively engaged in furthering the cause of peace and stability. We earnestly hope, that the
'Islamabad Talks' succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in coming days!

Home of reformist opposition leaders from 2009 Green Movement, Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard was also hit by Israeli/US strikes. They have been under house arrest by the regime for over a decade.
Tweet on X by Amir Kiyae reads:

Strikes on Iran appear to have hit the home where opposition leaders Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard have been held under house arrest - both are reported safe, but their residence was damaged. Former President Ahmadineiad's home was also targeted. Israel has stated it is targeting Iranian leaders "past, present, and future." This follows previous Israeli strikes on Evin Prison. This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again. www.nature.com/immersive/d4...
This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024–25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.
