So sad to hear that the iconic, trailblazing, Apollo 11 moon landing software engineering lead, Margaret Hamilton, is no longer with us. Love this image of her, standing next to a print out of the software that landed Buzz Aldrin and Neil Amstrong on the moon! 👩‍🔬🔭🛰️🧪 ℹ️: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Thought I'd jazz up my Halloween decorations but 99% of what I see is effing AI slop. How many artists didn't get paid? How many were stolen from? How many eyes bled out looking at this shite? Don't worry though. We're all being hysterical about AI. A slop apologist told me so it must be true.

The video advertising Unity's ew AI-driven autocomplete game maker has 'Mari' who has a game idea they "always wanted to make" and that idea is "Space Corridor" and it looks like this, and that's the strongest argument I can think of for keeping game dev out of the pro-AI crowd's hands.
A conversation between Theo and Mari. He asks "you know that game you always wanted to make?"A screenshot of Unity building a game called "Space Corridor".A generic 3rd person space marine in a generic scifi corridor. It is large and empty.

Scottish film could steal The Jazz Singer’s crown as ‘world’s first talkie’
Scots-written Till the Bells Ring premiered a year before the Hollywood film, which featured spoken words by Al Jolson For almost a century, The Jazz Singer has been celebrated as the world’s first feature-length film to include synchronised dialogue (known as a “talkie”), and English as the first language of cinema. But a chance discovery threatens to upend film history with the news that it may have been beaten to the title by a full year – and by a film made in Glasgow and written in Scots. The breakthrough was made by the historian and self-confessed “film nerd” Marc David Jacobs, who was conducting research for a book on the first wave of British sound films when he came across the story of Till the Bells Ring. Eva Marie Saint, star of North by Northwest and On the Waterfront, dies aged 102
Landmark roles were in 50s classics directed by Elia Kazan and Alfred Hitchcock, before going on to play Superman’s adoptive mother in later life Eva Marie Saint, one of the last survivors of Hollywood’s golden age of the 1940s and 50s, has died aged 102. Her screen work spanned six decades: Saint made her screen debut opposite Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront, starred in Alfred Hitchcock’s celebrated thriller North by Northwest, and in one of her last screen appearances played Superman’s adoptive mother Martha Kent in the 2006 superhero film Superman Returns. A family spokesman said on Tuesday that Saint had died of natural causes at her home in Los Angeles. Continue reading...

As I do when exploring image-text relations in my Making comics intro course, I share my two favorites that do bewildering things that can only be done in comics! Ibn Al-Rabin's seminal Le Verbe Prophétique alongside the always brilliant @tomgauld.bsky.social! Simple, yet mind-blowing! So good!
A six panel comic of a man and a woman where their word balloons are actually other panels (there are no words) indicating future actions and explaining why they did what they did. It's a bit like a nested loop in programming, you follow the balloon tail to where it shows the future action the person is saying, and then return to the panel and continue on forward. a three panel comic about Søren Kierkegaard in which the way the word balloons emanate from the characters, the man who is walking from the right panel backwards across to the left panel, but his words read in order "life can only be understood backwards" (coming from three different word balloons stacked, but the first comes from the man as he's in the far right panel, the middle man in middle panel, etc. Meanwhile, moving normally across the panels, a dog says in each panel, but below the stack of the man's words, "but it must be lived forwards"

The fact that I was never, ever going to be in alignment with anything any pope ever had to say, past, present, or future, and now I am (repeatedly) really is starting to look like proof that we may be in a simulation and some rando user is just playing with stat sliders for fun to see what happens.

I know most of you guys don't go on the other app but the pope posted an anti AI/ pro artists statement yesterday, and the ensuing cope and memes is really funny
Pope Leo XIV
@Pontifex

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.2016: I will never fight a holy war

2019: Pope Leo I am ready launch me towards the nearest data centersome AI guy saying he makes christian children's books with AI asking the pope if that is ok then and someone posting a meme react with the pope holding a baseball bat saying 'did I stutter'

#ScreenshotSaturday #PixelArt Workin' on a little 1-bit something something. This is just the WIP doc so I can test design ideas. Do I have a game yet? No, no I do not. I have thoughts about a game. They don't connect properly. Yet.
1-bit pixel art of a building facade. It's intentionally unfinished because it's just a design doc to test art things and determine potential placement of modular blocks.
