There is a lot of talk about AI policies in higher education. Both me and my partner are teaching on programmes where students basically aren't allowed to use it despite our universities saying students can. Which make me wonder how many degrees are being stricter than vroader university policy

"Your brains stop developing at age 25" was a press misrepresentation of a study. They wanted to see if brains continued to develop after adolescence, so the study was capped at age 25. A later study with a wider subject pool showed that brains are ALWAYS developing our whole lives.

Ugh. Neither is further institutionalization what metascience needs as a field nor is a centralized metascience that issues science-wide mandates what sciences need. This kind of thing is something I've been strongly against even without an office of metascience at NSF. But I could see it coming.

In the past decade, most universities have gone from "professors can do whatever they want on the syllabus" to "the syllabus is a complete binding contract that must include X, Y, Z and be reviewed". I kid you not. I tried telling them "but no one will read this"...

Universities are filled with staff and very risk averse. So there are people all day who make "IT policies" and "accessibility policies" (that go way beyond what the law or common sense requires) or "learning standards" (that don't raise learning) or...
