Det er helt normalt og naturlig med oversmitte fra språk man har høy eksponering for. Det at noen tillegger disse lånene en moralsk dimensjon gjør det fristende å se etter alternative forklaringer for å gjøre det mer stuerent, men ikke nødvendigvis mer sannsynlig.

Høflighetsformen gikk ut av vanlig bruk for 1-2 generasjoner siden. Dagens språkbrukere er langt mer eksponert for parallellen mellom den engelske og den norske flertallsformen.

Jeg tror det er begge deler. Det kommer fra engelsk, men det kom senere enn hen. Før hen var det rett og slett ikke noe særlig bruk av kjønnsnøytrale pronomen på norsk. Etterhvert som hen har blitt tatt mer i bruk har bevisstheten om det økt, og dermed mottakeligheten for smitte fra engelsk.

Appeasement har aldri noensinne virket. "One of the good ones" er en strategi som ikke fører til framgang for noen. Hvorfor kaste ikke-binære og vårt ønske om et tredje juridisk kjønn under bussen for å tilfredsstille en gjeng som kommer til å hate transfolk uansett?

"Pride betyr bare at alle kan elske hvem man vil" er å se bort fra opprinnelsen og historien til Pride i et misforstått forsøk på å gjøre det stuerent nok for folk som helst ikke vil forholde seg til skeive. Ikke et kurant standpunkt i min bok, og farlig nær "one of the good ones"-argumentasjon.

linguistics: The plural of "memorandum" is "memoranda", why can't people get it right

When you know a little about
linguistics: The plural of "memorandum" should just be "memorandums" because that's how people naturally say it, "memoranda" is just prescriptivism

When you know a lot about linguistics: Oh my god? So certain English words borrowed from Latin and Greek have competing plural forms, with one form using the English plural -s and the other using a borrowed Latin or Greek form? Do you realize how crazy that is a language borrowing *inflectional morphology* from another language? And here the two competing plural forms have become markers of education, expertise, and social class, isn't that incredible?
