A hill I intend to die on, except so far it's kept me alive in all sorts of ways: the best way to fight cynical doomerism is with cheerful, enthusiastic kindness. Look at that tiny blue slice in the onlooker, bottom-left. (Wish I knew who the creator of this cartoon is! Will keep hunting.) 1/
Cartoon showing someone yelling "you're a terrible person!" in view of an onlooker, with everyone having a pie chart for a head showing their ideological preference, and because the yeller is sounding so obnoxiously strident, not only does it nearly completely polarise the person being yelled at, it also starts to make the onlooker more sympathetic to the target of all this yelling.

With XENONnT we observed solar pp neutrinos via neutrino-electron scattering. With an exposure of 2.46 t x y and electron recoil energies from 1 keV to 140 keV (probing neutrinos with energies down to 17 keV) the measured flux is (10.2±2.0)x10^10 cm^-2 s^-1. Read more at: arxiv.org/abs/2608.29450
The solar pp flux estimated from the inference results. Top: The best-fit result is shown as a solid red point. Also plotted are results from combining GALLEX/GNO and SAGE, Borexino, and PandaX-4T. The prediction from the B16-GS98 solar model is indicated by a vertical grey dashed line. Bottom: Log likelihood ratio as a function of the solar pp-flux. Dashed lines indicate different significance levels.

It’s the 88th anniversary today of this immensely enjoyable headline 🧵
12 boys rout fascists
Twelve boys, some of them less than 10 years old, went to Weymouth beach and barracked Mr Robert Saunders, a Fascist speaker.
He ignored them, so they went away and returned with toffee tins half filled with stones.
Using the tins as rattles, they made so much noise that Mr Arthur England, a 63-year-old Weymouth magistrate and superintendent of the beach, approached to stop them.
A crowd of holiday-makers, sympathising with the children, booed Mr England and a sock filled with sand caught him behind the ear.
In the sand battle that followed, the Fascists were pelted off the beach.
About 5,000 people followed them to their car, overturned the trailer attached it, and filled the loud speaker equipment with sand.
