My book "Travels through the Spanish Civil War" published by @hurstpublishers.bsky.social 7 years to write. Starts in Barcelona's Plaça Catalunya, ends Austria. Takes the reader to Aragón with Orwell's son. War traveling through today's landscapes, scars of violence still there, how war remembered

This is rather cool. Shared with me by Gil Cividanes who writes "The photo taken in front of a [Francoist] Spanish grocery on West 14th Street, NYC in about 1937. The girl on left is my aunt Zazi aged 18-19, the woman to her right is my grandmother's friend Doña Francisca." Don't buy fascist goods.

Poster for the 18th edition of the "Volta a Catalunya" held from 13-21 June 1936, one month before the start of the Spanish Civil War. The race was won by Mariano Cañardo. Cycling was at the time among the most popular sports by spectators in Catalonia after football and boxing.

A young Montpellier snake on Montjuïc emerging from the castle walls by Lucy Brzoska. I've yet to spot one here, but it's always nice to know Europe's largest snake, feisty too, might be watching us as we walk by, still living in the heart of Barcelona. iberianature.com

Barcelona metro stopped for a minute today in respect to the family of Maricarmen Abascal who, as the screen explained, died this week aged 87 after being evicted from her Madrid home - where she'd lived since 1956-, sparking the wave of housing protests across Spain.

Group of Austrian and German International Brigade volunteers resting in Benissa, Alicante, September 1937. From the book "Voluntarios austriacos en la España republicana". Wonder what they're listening to. Erich Wolf, holding the record, later survived Auschwitz and Mauthausen.

Short video of trip of L82 bus through L"Hospitalet. On Barcelona's western border this is among the densest cities in Europe. The old centre is nice enough and there's a very pleasant rambla untouched by tourism. Outside, tightly packed blocks to house several phases of migration since the 1920s.

For 19 years the village of Llueves, Asturias has been commemorating "the first Spanish Republican": a bear which, so the story goes, killed King Fávila, son of Pelayo, who, "according to the Spanish monarchial tradition" began the so-called Reconquista and set off succession to today's monarchy
