If there’s a water shortage, don’t subsidize showers. If there’s a blackout, don’t make AC cheaper. If there’s an oil shortage, don’t cut gas taxes. Prices are helping signal scarcity. A gas tax holiday weakens that signal right when it matters most.

one absolutely fascinating dynamic is that just by using the number of seats and type of seat (FPTP/multi-winner PR), you can predict the number of parties that an electoral system will allow to be relevant: www.cambridge.org/core/books/v...

The answer is proportional representation. Proportional representation enables equal representation to minority voters as a structural feature, not as a litigated favor any future court can take away.

NYC study shows men are 2.6x more likely than women to bike to work. When protected bike lane coverage is high, women’s cycling rates rise significantly faster than men’s. When protected lanes are limited or fragmented, women’s participation drops sharply. Good bike investments give women choices.

Today in “Presidentialism was a grave mistake” The legislative solution is impeachment, not a commission to do the Principal Officers of the Executive Departments’ job for them. In a normal functioning democracy, there would just be a simple majority no confidence vote & we’d be done already.

A milestone in March: for the first time ever, renewables provided more power on the US grid than natural gas.

In a first, renewables beat natural gas on US grid last month
It’s just one month, but it’s a sign of where the U.S. is headed as renewable energy — namely solar — surges onto the grid.

I'm not sure how you can be against removing this man from office right now. What will it take? A nuke being dropped? It's too late then. The purpose of impeachment and the 25th Amendment is to prevent that type of thing from happening, not just to react to it.

Trump said today that “a whole civilization will die tonight.” This is insane.  He is openly threatening massive escalation in Iran. Congress needs to immediately vote to put a stop to this. It is a constitutional duty to vote on war powers and both sides should demand this.

The President of the United States is threatening to commit war crimes and wipe out a "whole civilization" — all because he started a disastrous war of his own making and had no plan and no strategy for how to end it. This is abhorrent, and the American people do not support this.

A widely unknown fact about voter registration: The USA didn't have it for several decades. States started adopting it in the mid-1800s largely to disenfranchise city dwellers, immigrants, poor people, etc. Even today, North Dakota lacks voter registration—eligible voters just show ID when voting

We should be clear-eyed about the fact that European countries have similar levels of support for basically-fascism as the United States. Their institutions just contain it more effectively (so far). We should be trying to add to that institutional resilience at the int'l level.
