I saw this morning where you have a hurricane. Was I dreaming?

The absurdity is now surreal. That said, I can't imagine what my own father thought walking from Normandy to the Rhone River during the war. What he saw, how he felt. I am glad he is not here to see what people have made of our country today.

Haven't posted much. Been monitoring the hurricane. My sister. Some other family, and one of my best friends are all in the cone. Fort Walton Beach, Crestview, and Baker Florida. This is all low lying land with lots of bays and rivers and ponds. They are already water-soaked from days of rain. 🥹

It hit 100 here today one mile east of the beach. Fortunately the humidity has not been as bad as it's been. But the AC has not stopped running all day although I've had it set in the upper 70s. I'm paranoid it's going to break down because it's only supposed to get hotter.

I reviewed Miéville’s extraordinary, intimidating novel The Rouse here:

Decolonizing the Dead | Los Angeles Review of Books
China Miéville’s first solo novel in over a decade is part Lovecraft, part le Carré—and quintessentially weird.

Wearing an antique bridal gown, the beautiful queen of the vampires sits all alone in her dark, high house under the eyes of the portraits of her demented and atrocious ancestors"

A friends was raped at a party when she was in high school by two guys. She was drunk. They all were. I say this not to defend anybody but to note no drugs. However, it hurt her so much. She knew these boys at the time, and she only told me about it 12 years later and what she had endured. ARGH.

The wonderful Faallaway shot the cover photo of my dreams. “Do you happen to live near a sphinx statue?” I asked. Turned out her parents did. The cover was shot at the Château de Fontainebleau. It evokes the monstrous Greek sphinx, the silent guardian of the desert, the alluring Decadent symbol.

The point on Tumblr is I stored art images there, along with information about the image. Now My page, which was once as wide as my desktop is two narrow columns and I can't even access my archives. So what is the freaking point? None. I wonder how long Blogger will last. It's free, and spacey.

Disappointment is a staple in life, and lately, I've faced the idea that all forms of social media are altering their structures and forms to fit only a phone. The latest horror is Tumblr. How we post and create our aesthetics has changed. I don't use a phone. Losing joy online. I stored art images

I bought a new set of soft pastels. I abt fell out when I had to pay for them. I want to do more art. That means reading less, unless I get books from the library and I have to use another loan system and be sure my fees are paid up at out of state and university libraries. Right now my head hurts.

Drawing created by Paul Davidson c.1967, in the art therapy studio at Netherne Hospital, where he was compelled to live. This is one of a small number of his surviving works & no biographical information is currently known to us
A crayon drawing of a white boy’s head with short brown hair and purple and orange rays emitting from his eyes, he is inside a square structure reminiscent of a window of theatre set with prance curtains, above a rectangle full of blue and green stars with red legs, and on either side are hands with their index fingers pointed
