Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and Canada has a lot of work to do. In some ways, we’re actually backsliding right now -- from residential school denial to rights-busting "national building projects." We gotta do a better job of defending and respecting Indigenous rights:

Franzi Schimmer captured this Grizzly bear in Brooks Falls, Alaska just floating along, tippy-tapping down the river, browsing the salmon. Prior to hibernation, up to 40% of a bear's body mass is fat, which is less dense than water (~0.9 g/cm^2), so the murder-monster is also a floaty-boaty.

She also shared that the museum has not been financially stable for some time, stating that on average, the museum spends about $1.3 million per year and generates about $470,000 in revenue. She said the university has explored financing tools like federal museum funding, STAR bonds or a dedicated property or sales tax levy, but none have proved viable.
Mason said that FHSU is partnering with the FHSU Foundation to launch a fundraising campaign. However, she said that to keep the museum open, FHSU would need about $1 million in new revenue every year, which cannot be solved by a one-time gift or a single fundraiser. The building that houses the Sternberg Museum also faces more than $20 million in deferred maintenance.
Mason shared that the university will still need to make additional cuts to reach the $2.4 million legislative budget reduction. Some additional changes the university has made includes pausing the school's golf program, reducing staff and payroll at the Office of the President and stepping down as the state host for the Small Business Development Center.

She also said that she understands the frustration felt in the community, however, the university "cannot absorb repeated, deep legislative reductions and simultaneously preserve everything our community.
