There's never enough Classics content here so let's talk about a couple of (as I tell my students) 'load-bearing culture words' in Latin and some of their cultural significance: beneficium: a favor, kindness, service officium: a duty, kindness, service & munus: a service, favor, obligation, gift.

Okay so I've built a new Atlas, this time it lets you explore the conversations on Bluesky over the past 7 days graphically. It should update every ~6 hours and help you navigate the information environment that exists on here. I've learned a LOT about what people do here today... atlas.jazco.dev

I'm gratified to hear that the letter to management that I and thousands of other NYT contributors signed heartened trans staffers and briefly led to change, and saddened to learn that the personal anti-trans animus of Sulzerger, Kahn, and Ryan led to a dedicated effort to reverse this.

The funny thing is there's probably a fair amount of scholarship they could quote (especially from over 30 years ago), although anything about the frequency of conflict before writing is kind of speculative. The giant bronze age battlefield in Germany shocked many.

This is the moment I think of the most when I ask myself how we got here. A speedy trial also forces a public confrontation with what actually happened, and would have made Trump politically toxic. It's hard to think of what could have been without bitterness.

Imo it's really hard for online shopping to settle at an equilibrium that values quality- e.g. you can't judge the quality of a dress from pictures easily, but the price is the price, and that ends up being the site of competition.

It'll include all bill meta data along with hand coded values by the legialerts team. I don't think anything like this has been done before.

Not really, the Su 35 is a modernized Su 27, so about equivalent (technologically) to a late F16. Russia hasn't had the budget to do much more than tweak late soviet designs, so it doesn't have anything like the F-22 or the F-35.

Most of the recent change is democratic voters getting mad at elected Dems for being too accommodating to Trump, so it really depends which segment of "doesn't like Dems" were talking about. Iirc most voters think Sanders is too far left, and he's the most popular. In aggregate 2+2=5.
