Today I started my professional enrichment at Holly Grove SEND school in Burnley to understand more about SEND and what I could possibly introduce into my future classroom. What an incredible experience so far! I was absolutely flawed by the dedication and care of the staff. #SEND #education

A lovely stop off in Knaresborough today as I made my way back over the Pennines to spend two days in a primary school and three days in a SEND school. (Plus a delicious lunch) #knaresborough #education
Knaresborough castle- built in 1100 by a Norman Baron.
Largely destroyed in 1648 as part of an order from parliament to dismantle Royalist castles. Knaresborough Viaduct- built in 1848.

Today @york.ac.uk we had a fantastic seminar by @uclholocaust.bsky.social I took away some wonderful ideas for resources and lots of extra knowledge to take into the classroom come September! Particularly fascinating was the story about Chaim Rumkowski

Happy #caturday 🐱 In 7500BC a human was buried in Cyprus. Buried in a grave next to them was an 8 month old kitten. Cats aren’t native to Cyprus, telling us that cats were being domesticated as people settled in the Fertile Crescent! I have no images so here is my cat! #history

Clitheroe castle- a motte and bailey castle founded by Roger de Poitou in the 11th century. If you’re ever in the Ribble Valley I highly recommend visiting the castle museum! (There’s also some great bakeries nearby) 😋

Whilst raiding my grandparents home, we discovered Maud Couper- my great, great aunt! Supposedly Maud was one of the first voices of the speaking clock. I’m not sure how true that is but if anyone has any relevant information or could point me in a direction for research, that would be great! 😄

We had a fantastic talk by @historyrichk.bsky.social today at the UOY! I asked about the possibility of oral exams in history to aid with accessibility. As a trainee I’m still getting to grips with assessments so it would be great to hear people’s opinions on making exams more accessible! 😄

Roman history was absolutely destroyed for me during my time at school (It’s all we did for about 4 years). I’ve definitely fallen back in love with it as an adult ❤️ This is pretty interesting so I thought I’d share! ⬇️ Beginnings of Roman London in office basement www.bbc.com/news/article...

The discovery has been described as one of the most important pieces of Roman history in the City of London.

What’s the point in refusing citizenship to refugees who have ‘made a dangerous journey’? What’s the point in publishing footage of people being deported? I’m sorry to say that this is simply a continuation of the performative cruelty we saw from the Conservatives.

Same shit, different century. This from a 17thC Spanish physician showing his fears about a migrant take over. Extract from Becky Taylor's 'Another Dawn, Another Darkness'.
Comment from 17th century Spanish physician explaining his fears about how Spain will become overrun by beggars, by which he means gypsies.

It’s been a very busy weekend so I missed caturday, whoops! Happy… catunday?? Anyway, did you know cats were a sacred animal to the Vikings? The goddess Freyja, according to mythology, would bless those who were kind to them 🐱🌸 #cats #history #Vikings

Has your eel been out of the water for too long? Is it DEAD? It's ok. We can fix that. Albertus Magnus (d. 1280) wrote that, to solve this, you put the eel in a mix of strong vinegar & vulture blood & then cover that with a pile of dung. And your eel will spring back to life! 🗃️🧪
Meme. Painting of Albertus Magnus. He is sitting at a desk, resting his left elbow on a book. His right hand is resting on the other page, and he's making a fist with his right hand. He is wearing a brown cloak and a glorious bishops' miter. Behind him is a red tapestry on the wall, and a shelf. His face is lined with cares or age, or possibly hard living. He's great, and he knows it.

His eyes are penetrating, and he looks skeptical. Imagine that he is testing you on the contents of the book, and you are having to rely on what you remember from a 2:00 am cramming session. His hand likely began extended, but he's been closing it in a fist for the last 4 minutes while you fumble your answers. You're going to fail. You know it. And so does Albertus. It's now just a question of how deep the hole will be.

This is like a pre-comps nightmare, come to life. Why did you even put him on your committee?

Meme text reads:
"What? You don't
have vulture blood?"

#Caturday once again 🐱 Cats were first brought to Britain by the Romans and it seems we’ve loved them ever since! Stuart London especially seemed to have a fondness for the felines. These novelty cat jugs were very popular, commonly used for milk or cream 🥛

Happy #Caturday 🐈 This week I taught about witchcraft in Elizabethan England. Cats were often thought to be witches familiars. Helping them in the dark arts or spying on the local villagers. This put many cats in danger during the height of the witch trials! 🪄

#Caturday history 🐱 Unsinkable Sam is one of my favourite stories! Actually known as Oscar, ‘unsinkable Sam’ was a ships cat who served on German and British ships. He survived 3 sinkings ⚓️ After being transferred from Gibraltar, he lived the rest of his life in Belfast.

It’s #caturday 🐱 Some of my favourite history is the pro and anti suffragette cat imagery or what some have described as cat ‘memes’! This is a personal favourite portraying an injured cat (suffragette) who isn’t willing to give up the fight 💪

Hello blue sky! 🩵 At the start of this year I submitted my dissertation that focussed on equids and the men who cared for them in WW1. In my research I discovered these photos, a pay book, and lots of spiders stuffed away in my Grandmas cupboard. The two images were taken in Boulogne, 1917.
