Are Lean Body Mass and Fat-Free Mass the Same or Different Body Components? A Critical Perspective - PubMed
The 2-component molecular-level model dividing body mass into fat and fat-free mass (FFM) is a cornerstone of contemporary body composition research across multiple disciplines. Confusion prevails, however, as the term lean body mass (LBM) is frequently used interchangeably with FFM in scientific di …

For a lot of people using weight loss drugs, loss of fat-free mass might not be a real problem. It is only within the last few years that researchers have started investigating this. 2/7

With the risk that this post might backfire at some point, let’s pay more attention to Nurse’s Angel and Kaelin’s bricks. What do you think it takes to change these aspects of Academia? 14/14

“… the goal of a paper seems to have shifted from validating specific conclusions to making the broadest possible assertions. The danger is that papers are increasingly like grand mansions of straw, rather than sturdy houses of brick.” 13/14

And regarding bricks, let’s end by an underappreciated quote from William G. Kaelin Jr’s 2017 World View-piece in @nature.com encouraging us to: ‘Publish houses of brick, not mansions of straw’. 12/14 www.nature.com/articles/545...

Unfortunately, the Angel - and its advice to dig deeper - are suffering in today’s science. And so is this important take on how you should measure ‘success’ - from another Nobel Laureate, William G. Kaelin Jr: 8/14 www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpvX...

But is that the entire explanation for why these drugs are so effective at shrinking fat stores - or is there an additional, and indirect, mechanism involving peripheral tissues that helps suppress appetite and lower body weight? 3/16
