Figure skating world championships were considered to be for men only until 1902, when Madge Syers showed up and took home silver and the ISU went "whooooops guess we need to segregate them." It happened again in 1992 Olympic skeet shooting: Zhang Shan took gold and then they segregated the event.
Figure skater Madge Syers, doing a one-foot glideZhang Shan, Olympic gold medalist in skeet shooting, pictured wearing goggles and with several, uh, shotgun casings? in the air in front of her. Look, I know figure skating words for the most part but not skeet shooting ones.

I could have picked one of the pictures of her with her gun but the ones without Getty copyright on them were all potato-quality, and also I probably would have used the wrong gun word there too.

A cross-party joint statement from LGBT+ Liberal Democrats, Rainbow Greens, LGBTQIA+ Greens, and Out for Independence on Wes Streeting’s engagement with anti-trans organisations and call for his resignation. Read and share the full statement here: lgbt.libdems.org.uk/news/article...
A statement titled "Cross-Party Statement on Wes Streeting’s Engagement with Anti-Trans Groups" expresses disappointment over Wes Streeting’s meeting with the Bayswater Group and other organisations advocating for anti-LGBTQIA+ conversion practices. The statement criticises Streeting and the UK Labour government for failing to work in good faith with LGBTQIA+ groups. It highlights concerns about the Bayswater Group’s actions in blocking a Conversion Practices Ban and mentions trans young people’s pleas regarding puberty blockers. It also condemns Streeting’s support for the Cass Review, which is described as flawed and influenced by anti-LGBTQIA+ groups. The statement concludes with a call for Streeting to resign as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. It is signed by Rainbow Greens, LGBTQIA+ Greens, LGBT+ Liberal Democrats, and Out For Independence. The image includes logos of these organisations at the bottom.

@scumbelievable.bsky.social hey so I know you're planning to shutter your twitter, and I completely understand. Seen others reflecting on your bangers and wanna say I've always found this thread really touching and I've been thinking about it a lot recently given how terrible this month has been.
GFM on twitter: A lot of readers get upset that the characters in MANHUNT don't cure the virus or beat the bad guys for good or come up with a way for the human race to keep procreating safely. I get a lot of "why do these people want to keep living?"

What do you think it's like to be queer?
We've always loved each other on the edge of oblivion. Our communities are wiped away. Our books are burned. We die and nothing remains of us. To be alive at all, to be able to love and fuck and fight and dream, is enough reason to want to keep going.

It would feel dishonest to me to end the book with an assurance that the human race will continue. All I've ever known is the imperfect and often volatile solace of community, and that's all I have to offer my readers.
